You just described the law of averages and I tend to agree with it. America has race issues that are unique to America, and they’re a long way from being fixed, but so does Canada, and so does every Europe. We may have a particularly bad history in this department that not every other country with race issues has (though some were extremely complicit in that history at best LOOKING AT YOU ENGLAND, SPAIN, PORTUGAL, NETHERLANDS), but for the most part we do acknowledge it and aren’t proud of it. Lots of countries do not acknowledge their race issues and this holier than though attitude of poopting on America for being a racist country is both counter factual and annoying.

Look at every great empire throughout history, and the majority of it was built on the backs of people who were enslaved, or, at best, subjected to a lifetime of serfdom.

America is fa from perfect and has many historical facts that are atrocious. I think a lot of people will freely admit that and, although I think it's impossible to not have any prejudices at all in the current day, would not would never attempt to defend or deny it.

It's 2023 and slavery (or slave wages) still exists in other countries, that's some wild poop.

Not sure. Would Rust waive to go to Ottawa? Remember that he has the hammer on any trade. Probably not but I think that is a trade the Sens might go for.

He fits the right shot sniper hole that the Pens need but I don't necessarily know if he is going to be worth the contract he is going to command. Qualifying offer for him is $9M... if its between him and Jake I'll take Guentzel all day long.

I'd be more interested in focusing on Laine. Under contract for 3 years so less long term risk, I think he has more offensive upside playing with the Pens.

- MacPatty

Although players have the ability to nix a trade, I don’t see it too often (other than kessel) but that might be because it’s all private. GMJR didn’t care enough to look, lol.

I think we would negotiate outside of the QO. Say for 5 years at 7 or 4 years at 7.5.

No like non-white people being racist to darker skinned people.

It’s kind of similar to what they have in Japan where even though they’re all the same race (Japan is super homogeneous), your skin color is seen as a tell of your socio economic status. Rich people are light skinned because they’re rich and don’t have to work outside and poor people are dark skinned because they do have to work outside. Obviously that’s not true, people just have different pigmentation, but bigotry stems from that kind of thinking in Japan.

In Puerto Rico it’s that kind of skin tone concept but applied more directly to race. The darker you are, the worse your genes you have and the more likely you are to be bad people/riffraff. It’s good old fashioned racism but it’s funny because it’s between people who often don’t look very different at all.

Thats all so crazy to me, man haha. Its not even a black/white issue. Like different shades of brown? Nuts

My wife was telling me the fact that her mom (PR) and her biological dad (Dominican) got together would be under scrutiny in both countries back in the day.

Nah, its everywhere. Though I do think its possible there's less. Our country, even though it has more land than the USA, only has like 1/11th the population of the USA. So I think that opens up the possibility of there being more of anything in your country. Also, whereas USA is like almost right down the middle 50/50 left/right ...Canada is closer to 70/30 left/right...maybe more like 65/35...its around there, anyway. I could see lefty Americans thinking its utopia-like up here but our sh!t stinks too...there just isn't nearly as many people taking sh!ts haha
This was speaking in terms of voting but pretty much everyone I know in life, that is Canadian and no matter where they are in Canada, is pretty centered/middle of the road when it comes beliefs. I suspect there's a lot of people like that in USA too.

I chose not to buy the coverage and fear stoking of each side the media likes to sell by usually just covering the extremes of each side. Anyone who thinks/believes the representation of each side that their medias are selling applies to all of that side need to go walk off a cliff IMO hahaha

- MattStrat

I dont think Canada is a racist country, its a very easy going country that Ive enjoyed my time in. But people in the US seem to think all of the problems that exist go away when you step into Canada. It just always makes me laugh.

If you want to see the racism in Western Europe, look at the sh!t Vini Jr goes through when playing soccer in Spain. If that kind of stuff happened to a black athlete in the US, the entire sport would shutdown.

Thinking an athlete doing some sort of uniformed protest during a national anthem before a game is news worthy is absolutely 100% just discourse.

I wonder what team is going to overpay for Hill's ridiculous playoff performance?

Goalies man. You’re (frank)ed if you don’t get one but you’re also (frank)ed when you do get one because they’ll just turn into a lemon after a Conn Smyth a performance. Look at Bob. His contract has been mostly terrible but now he’s back to being a hero. Will probably suck again next year.

It looks like his magic has already run out. Absolutely no one saw this Hill performance coming. It's Murray's two year run when he first came in. I thought he was gonna be a stud for the next decade. It's kind of why I liked Sully and Dubas' comments on goaltending. There is just a handful of guys you can call a true franchise starter. The rest should be treated as 1a and 1b.

I'm not counting out the Cats yet...I already did that in round one when they were down 3-1 vs the B's. Youre not in trouble in a series until you lose at home...see how the all important game 3 goes. If Eichel is out that's a big loss for the Knights. Having said all of that, Vegas has looked a few levels above them through the first 2 games...but then again they were outplayed most of the games of the first 3 rounds, as well. I think even if the Cats win the cup Bob's Conn Smythe bid is probably done now.

Hasn't been a hero in the 1st 2 games, lol back to good old Bob.

That's why goaltending is so god damn volatile. Outside the top 3-5 goalies.. who you really gonna bet on?

Vegas's 3rd and 4th lines are feasting on Florida. Unless Bob shakes off those two rough games and goes back to his form against the Canes, I see no way the cats come back. Unless Hill comes back to earth in this series it should be short.

Id really like to see a complete overhaul of a lot of hte roster to surround Malkin/Crosby. If Dubas can bring in Nylander do it.

Rakell and Gutz are pretty solid and good value Id keep them.

But if moving Rust and just about anyone else makes the team better....do it.

Maybe Dome at 3C. Bring in some younger hungry players. Not dudes that are a yr or 2 into their 30+ last NHL deal they're gonna get.

The answer around these parts for years was MAF. But MAF was a fundamentally flawed goalie who relied mostly on his athleticism to be effective, which was a double-edged sword. But you could usually get league-average goaltending out of him over a season; if a short series, you hoped he was on an upswing.

Ugh, I'd have loved to trade a first and get Provorov for less than $5M per year.

Wonder what the next move is for LA? Probably re-signing Gavrikov but who knows.

They needed to rebuild anyway. They have no path right now to being a competitive team. They got rid of Provorov and ate some cap space for 2 1sts... not bad I'd say.

Carter Hart... who cares? If they can get something for him they should definitely trade him.
