It's possible but there is no "out clause" in his current KHL contract. So Molson would have to pay the russians a significant amount for them to consider it. Michkov is already seen as a star over there.
- Scabeh

Given the current political climate, and the sanction placed on Russia, I am not sure he would even be legally allowed to make that deal if it was even an option with his KHL team.

I have not felt this excited about the team in years.

They are building something good here... I am enjoying that process as much as watching the kids develop as they play more.

This is fun.

Good time to be a Habs fan.

Yes we are!

You get the guy that could become a franchise player at 5th overall.

If you pass on him to get a "good two way guy" like Dvorsky who's basically Anton Lundell with a little more offense, it's a mistake!

IMO, Habs will draft Ryan Leonard unless Smith slips to 5th. If Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson and Smith go in the top 4, I see MTL picking Leonard.

It's him or Reinbacher imo.

IF they pass on Michkov and all the guys you mentioned are picked.

Which I think is a mistake.

Leonard is a great player, very intense, great shot, thrives under pressure, he is seen as a playoffs performer. He is a CHaracter guy, maybe the winger needed for Suzuki and Goalfield.

if the russian is there at 5, I don't see how they could pass on him. there's a big drop in talent after the top5, and Michkov is supposed to be #2 right behind Bedard talent wise.

I think if he is there at 5, a good chance a trade happens and the habs move down a few spots.

I would be surprised to see them move back a few spots. I think they use the 5th and draft Leonard.

For me Michkov is a lot like Caufield, undersize, great shot, not a great skater, not much involved in the defensive side. Michkov is maybe a better passer but they are similar type players IMO

depends who they have at the top of their list. if they have a guy ranked in the top10 there's no point in taking chances, you draft him.

anyway the Caufield deal is good. Way more likely to be a bargain than a bust

I ma not talking about moving out of the top 10, I am talking moving down a few spots, if the return is valuable.

Will all come down to if they think the Russian is worth the pick at #5.

And if not, they might be able to get the guy they want at 6 or 7 or 8 or 9.
