One of the more bizarre episodes in Flyers salary cap history. Thankfully the deal never went thru, and Cleary went back to Detroit where he managed to score 9 points in 69 games before ending his career in the AHL. That was the guy Homer allegedly wanted to sign for 3 years.

To this day I still have no idea what Homer was thinking. But I think it had something to do with the mentality of the franchise that has stuck with us to this day. That of overvaluing the veteran grinder type player who "plays the right way".

Does Mike Babcock strike you as a rebuild type of coach? Does Columbus with players like Laine,Werenski and JG on their roster strike you as a rebuilding team? I think this hire tells us they are in it to win now. That is why I feel Columbus wants to trade their 3rd overall pick in this draft for a haul. If I were the Flyers, I would do whatever takes to get that pick. Columbus has $16M in cap space, would they take Provey and TK, plus a prospect or the Flyers' top pick next season for their 3rd overall pick? If the Flyers somehow can come away with getting Columbus' pick without giving up their 7th overall pick, that would really move this rebuild forward!
- jd250

Do you think the 3rd overall pick has more value than Ivan and TK? I do.

columbus can do better if they move that pick. also will believe this rebuild when I see it happening.

If the Flyers could somehow work it to get 3 and keep 7 then I am in. I just do not think Provy and TK alone get you close to that 3rd overall pick.

2024 first unprotected, York, Foerster and TK for #3?

I see that as three steps back for one step forward.

You could be right. But if the first three are studs like everyone says it is worth it. If Michkov is Malkin is it worth it? You also have 3 and 7 overall in a very deep draft.

Sadly, the Deslauriers contract and Torts coming out saying they need more character and PK guys seems to indicate that belief is alive and well. Though it was nice to hear Briere on BSH say they need 'Mackinnon' type players and not a guy like Barclay Goodrow or something. Hopefully those words turn into actions.

I still hope that he was just doing Cleary a favor by pretending to have a deal waiting for him after the season started, so that Detroit would get triggered and sign him before that.

I'd like to know if this was on the suggestion of a flyers scout to sign him or if this was a stickily Homer move.

I'd still be pretty surprised if the Flyers move Provorov. Tortorella likes him and he is a bulk share of the triumvirate.

Me too. I am fine if they do but I will surprised if they do. The Flyers have zero org depth on D.

Not much of a "rebuild" if all they do is pay some team to take Hayes at 50%.

The Flyers were a bottom 10 defensive team last season rolling with an ES top 7 of:

https://www.naturalstattr...ines=single&draftteam=ALL

Provorov - 3.38 GA/60
Sanheim - 2.51 GA/60
DeAngelo - 3.7 GA/60
Ristolainen - 2.82 GA/60
Seeler - 2.55 GA/60
York - 2.92 GA/60
Braun - 2.17 GA/60

If they replace Provorov and Braun with Attard and Zamula does that make them a bottom 5 defensive team? And if it does, so what. They are in a "rebuild". Also keep in mind that Provorov was second worst behind only Tony D when it came to allowing goals against.

Not arguing against moving him. Just saying I am not convinced they are ready to turn it over to the kids like they should. I also think Provorov is better than his numbers with the Flyers. He has to cover for a lot of folks that are not good at hockey.

Would be very disappointing. Briere needs to show he is more creative than Fletcher. If he's able to trade Provorov for draft capital and maybe a player on an ELC, he then needs to use that cap space by taking on some bad contracts for even more draft capital. The fact that they do not pick again until 87 in this draft needs to be at the forefront of his mind.

The reality is that I said Florida's physicality and forecheck wouldn't bother Vegas (predicted Vegas is 6). Vegas is just as physical as Florida, but with more talent. On a more serious note, I'm hearing that there is lots of momentum for the desert dogs to relocate to Atlanta. If the NHL goes back to Atlanta for a third time they all should be FIRED on the spot! Thanks!

Come Sept when "Jones" and Danny boy take the podium and say this is Torts 2nd year the players now know what to expect and bunch of other talk is what they will say after they bring back the same players less Hayes and Tony D. Then add in the return of ex selke and cam.

I am not expecting any real change.

Can Columbus do better than a potential top line 40 goal winger and a 2nd pairing defenseman that can play 23-27 minutes per game, and is in the lineup each and every game, plus a good prospect and most likely a high 1st rounder next year?

Good for him, but people only remember the team that takes home the Cup. He hasn't been very good thus far in the Finals.

I remember John Vanbiesbrouck pretty clearly the last time Florida made a final. Not to mention Bob had multiple hardware in his career. Beezer’s run with the Panthers is probably what made Philly interested in him to begin with.
