Hahaha this offseason hasn't technically even really started yet, man. Let's see what unfolds over the next few months... Then see how things are looking into November/December... Or that's what I'll do before starting to form opinions on this offseason but you do you. - MattStrat
The simple fact Sullivan didn’t go with Hextall is a giant failure. |

Weren't Babcocks Leafs a top 5 scoring team every year?
You will recall that early after he started people were calling for Trotz head and Washington didn't even offer him a contract as his deal expired. He was also the biggest whiner head coach in the league.
Not worth beating a dead horse here. - MacPatty
Trotz turned down an extension. He wanted to go to New York. |

The more I think about the Q&A with Sully, I think Carter and Petry are as good as gone. If They want to focus on speed? Adios. |

He wanted 5m over 5 years after the Cup. Washington didn’t want o give him term so he bounced.

Didn't Trotz ask for an extension before the season and they wanted to play? Thought he had a little bitterness over that involved, but I could be remembering wrong. |

any interest in a Carter Hart trade? - hello it's me 2050
No. Even though he is on a terrible team he has done very little to show he is worth the hype. Would rather get a proven vet. |

You can bet Granlund is gone. He is passive, doesn't forecheck, second guesses everything. They will probably attempt to do something with Carter, but it's not going to be easy. NMC, high salary for what he brings, might have to retain salary and throw in a sweetner to get rid of him. |

I agree on Granlund. He will be gonzo.
Carter, I don't think you get better by getting rid of him. It would take a very specific scenario given his NMC and then you are giving up assets in hopes of finding someone better in FA or trade that will maybe save you a million.
Disappointing year for Carter and he is not the same player he used to be. But I think he could still be really good as a 3RW if they get some quality players for him to play with. He isnt carrying a line but he has a scoring touch and could be a good complimentary player. |

I can’t imagine Carter regaining his scoring touch again. Maybe the unwanted feeling from new management might push him to waiving his NMC. Send out Petry and whatever assets we get for him, add to Carter.
I didn’t think we need to waste our breathe with Granlund. Writing is on the wall. Guess is buyout. |

Carter is washed. Time to move on from him. He can't carry play and his defensive game is awful. I don't know what we can get for Petry, but he was good at 5v5.
I hope Granlund never signed a lease anywhere, because he is gone lol. |

I'd probably bring Petry back. He was decent before he got hurt. I would have given him more PP time when the 1st unit stagnated. I kind of feel like most of the heavy lifting will be with the bottom 6. Get Bertuzzi.

Maybe not, Dubas was a huge Granlund fan and tried to acquire him a number of times when with the Leafs. |

Yes, I'm the stupid one yet the president of the Penguins just said he was looking for a progressive GM. In other words, he's looking for Joe Biden/ Bernie Sanders soldiers. The NHLPA just did the same thing by hiring a self-described communist to run their union. - CGYFlames13
You equate "progressive" with politics?

Seravalli reported that the Leafs might be looking to add Granlund at the TDL for the playoff run two seasons ago. Two seasons ago Granlund had 64 points in 80 games, his 3rd best season production wise of his 12 year NHL career. His play dropped off a cliff after that season and he takes up 5 mill.
I think its very possible he's still a Penguin this coming season, though I hope not.
Anything you can show us about Dubas being a "huge fan" of Granlund? ...or was the "huge fan" just your spin on what I said in the first paragraph? Are we sure Shanny wasnt the one wanting Granlund? I mean Dubas looks into analytics, Granlund's weren't all that hot even though he was having one of his best offense seasons. |

I don't see any way Dubas keeps Granlund around. His buyout is fairly easy. I haven't really followed the Leafs, but haven't they paid some steep prices to dump players? 1st round picks?

7.85 per x 8 years for Cole Caulfield.....I mean...he's definitely good and talented but in his very early career has shown signs of being made of glass. I guess from the Habs standpoint, with the cap expected to go up 12 mill over the next handful of season, it could really be a steal of a deal if he stays healthy and keeps getting better.....or ...if he can't it turns out to be really sh!tty for them haha |

Bertuzzi would be my number one priority in UFA. This guy can help us tremendously. If we could keep Zucker around for around $4M per would be great too.

Rakell
Rust
Zucker
Bertuzzi
and whatever else as your wingers, you're in good shape.
Also I'd try to get Blueger back in the band. |

Unless Dubas is a wizard and moves out some lead (Carter, Ruuta, Granlund) without taking anything back, I think Bertuzzi getting signed would mean Zucker isn't coming back. |
