This press conference is one hell of a showing by Dubas. Saying the right things and coming across as authentic. 100% this guy is going to be a stud here.

I think it's funny how Toronto fans think he's the worst GM in the world and is a bum and Penguin fans are relatively excited. Love it.

I for one really think he's a solid hockey guy and will do a lot for the penguins as an organization.

He did a good job of getting cheap guys on contracts and pretty much sells the "Look who you play with in Toronto, get every scout to watch your game. If it doesn't work for us we'll find you a new opportunity. Look at Hyman and Mikeheyev." He just gets to say "play with MULTIPLE future hall of famers" now with the penguins.

He's not committed to getting a GM...says he will be doing it into July then will assess

I like his comments on this. He wants to hire someone progressive. He wants to interview them and that takes time. So Dubas handles this summer (draft/free agency) then hires a gm to take the day to day after that and he will help them.

It's easy to see why FSG was waiting for him. He absolutely crushed that presser.

To be fair, Hextall destroyed the Penguins fan base so that any new GM would be widely celebrated. I think one of the appeals for Dubas is that he gets to be the top dog in a market that loves hockey but isnt a "in your face" market like Toronto is.

Well Dubas isn't the GM but I get your point.

I think it'll be an interesting challenge and I look forward to spending more time here. I find myself oddly following Dubas more than the leafs at the moment. Maybe I'm just petty and want and tell Toronto fans they were wrong when he wins a cup with Pittsburgh in 12 - 24 months

The Penguins are a lot better off than people thing. Next year, I think Dubas can make this team a playoff team. Can they win a round? Probably but also probably not. Depends on the matchup and who they are playing.

I am more excited for next offseason. The Penguins will have some more money to work with, less dead weight, and likely a big jump in the salary cap given escrow should be resolved by then. There's a ton of talented UFAs in the summer of 2024. The Penguins can extend their window if that capital is allocated correctly.

A real benefit is Dubas was a GM 2 weeks ago. So he still knows what's going on around the league. Which team is selling who for the most part. So he doesn't need to re-establish himself in that way.

I'm in Nfld and a lot of my close friends and family are diehard Leafs fans. The really knowledgeable on all things hockey ones of that group are sad to see him go and believed in him, really liked him.

He talked about really liking the top 6 but wondering if another top 6 player should be acquired to help supplement it...he talked about the depth needing to be better...he talked about all the cap space they have this summer....the FSG guys talked about how well he articulated a plan to them....great f'n presser

His comments on goaltending and what type of players they want in the bottom 6 were great too. When he said their bottom 6 cant be leaving pucks in the Dzone for the top 6 to have to dig out I lost it. You just know he wants to be able to roll 4 lines and pressure all game.

So what does the president of hockey ops do? Everyone kept stating no one knows what the job is a month ago.

The problem with Sully is he wants all 4 lines to do it the same way that Sid and Jake do it which is not feasible.
