The real GM has been here for 9 years. Think that's enough time for 1 series win.

He’s a good GM. Whether or not you think he’s better than Dubas or whatever - fact is he is a legit NHL GM that has (reportedly) great relationships throughout the league and is very well respected by players also. This is a very important part of success along the league as a GM.

Leafs needed a new set of eyes and a refresh or new perspective. It just wasn’t working. Results business - time for new blood. I think this will be a good change in an obvious stale situation.

I think he swings big on Dmen and personally see him looking at a bigger goalie in a deal.

Good news though in my opinion. I don’t look at it as a Shanny vs Dubas thing or that Dubas is the greatest GM in league history. Both have been good and both bad at times. It’s the nature of the game eh

Side note - I didn't read the amazing suggestion of hiring Dave Tallon as the GM from the Rare Fool until after I posted.

Holy hell - hire the guy who got fired for allegedly making racially insensitive comments during the bubble season during the playoffs in Toronto and has this on his resume from his time in Florida?

Tallon had been with the team for 10 years, but Florida made the playoffs only three times in that span and has not won a post-season round since reaching the Stanley Cup Final in 1996

He signed goalie Bob to a deal that everyone in the world agreed was terrible until these playoffs?

Totally screwed up as GM of the Blackhawks when it came to re-signing his RFA's didn't get the offers in on time and then had to overpay drastically to keep them including rookie of the year at the time Versteeg?

Or totally screwed up the Vegas expansion draft for the Hawks?

Bill Cosby as the team physician?

(1) It isn't the GMs job to make the lines. I don't agree with his coaching hires, but it's up to the coaching staff to make those decisions. That said, he was given those opportunities to be "used properly".

(2) You have to play well enough to get to the playoffs. Sam Bennett didn't in the regular season. Go look at his numbers if you can be bothered - his actual goals for and against with linemates. When he played UP in the lineup, he was a negative to very negative player most of the time. When he played 3rd line he was a positive player. But Bennet sulked and publicly complained about not being in the top-6 regularly.

I would have liked him on the Leafs for a 2nd - that would have been a fair investment and we have a perennial hole on the left side. But Bennett would still have to be better than he was. Ultimately don't scapegoat management because Bennett half-assed his opportunities. I think he learned from getting traded to shut up and play.

He’s been at center on line2 since day one in FL. Idk if that could be part of his resurgence as a Panther, playing in the middle instead of on the wing.
