Steigy was just on the radio. They brought up the Tavares deal. Steigy said it was his understanding that Shanny was behind giving him that deal and Dubas didn't want to do it. TIFWIW.

I dont blame them for signing him. I blame them for signing him to a cap hit way above what he should've gotten for a hometown guy wanting to play for his hometown team.

The bigger problem is as soon as they signed him, one of Nylander/Marner/Matthews should've been traded with the most likely guy being Nylander. They could've gotten a nice defenseman or a package of futures for Nylander and been better off. And I say that as a guy who likes Nylander.

I dont know man, at the time Tavares was the biggest UFA in recent years and one of the best centers in the league. He was a perennial 30/35 goal scorer, close to PPG player or more every season, and great in both ends of ice. The Islanders were offering him the same amount to stay that he received from the Leafs and I believe it was understood quite a few other teams wanted him and were willing to give just as much or more. He had 47 goals for the Leafs in his first season with them. He's had some real sh!tty injury luck since joining them as well. I don't think Tavares is near as bad as people like to say he is, even for his price tag.

I think the Steigy is just making assumptions up, just like how everyone said the b2b cup moves were more likely because of AGM Botterill and then when he left GMJR went senile and (frank)ed the team up.

Is it that bad of a deal? He is a perennial pt/gm player and the deal expires in a few years. It might be on the high side but he's been a solid player no?

In a vacuum? No, but when you add in the rest of the contracts on that team, it becomes questionable. I also don't think he's been as bad as Toronto fans make him out to be.

Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Matthews are all PT/GM players...getting signed up in your prime at that production rate will command a premium. But as the Pens have learned its hard to have a balanced roster with a lot of studs.

I really have no clue who any of their D are and Murray as their #1G WTF?

Those are probably his biggest criticisms, but if a goalie ain't available, you cant just go get one. Also, take a look at the last handful of goalies to win the cup. Outside of Vasilevsky, which of those goalies are bonafide no. 1s? Murray? Keumper? Binnington? Holtby? Maybe Holtby. Probably need to go back to Johnny Quick and Corey Crawford to get to that.

No 1 goaltenders aren't easy to find, and sometimes you just have to build the best team in front of the goalie if one's not acquirable.

Personally out of the possible scenarios, at this point Im picking that FSG moves on from Dubas maybe tomorrow or Friday. I just think he's waiting to see what happens in Ottawa and I dont blame him one bit. I think if he truly wasnt interested in the Penguins job, he would've said no by now. I think either he's already agreed and its just a question of contract/responsibilities or he wants time to see what happens in Ottawa.

I'm starting to think Dubas already passed and our second choice is now telling them to eff off. Pure speculation of course.

There are 32 NHL GM seats in the entire world. Just incredibly hard for me to fathom someone saying (frank) off to an opening just cus they weren’t first choice as long as it was all communicated professionally. I mean guys take on terrible situations they know will be career suicide just because the GM seat is available all the time.

I would think ~million dollar salaries are pretty cool regardless, but I definitely wouldn't know.

Lol I’m gonna be jumping around when I finally see start making six figures after my next raise. I can’t even imagine what seven would feel like. There’s a whole lot I’d put up with for that sort of financial security

Make a couple million a year for as long as you can hold on for and then you’re set for life “consulting” until retirement. Sounds good to me, brother.

...With each passing day I fear this ends up like one of the many sh!tty blindsided trades we get, we didn't see coming and pretty much all ask "WTF?" over the years....or like when we ended up with Hextall and Burke in the first place....didn't see it coming most knew it wasn't a great idea....

...its almost the weekend again now....nothing gonna happen over the weekend....draft is getting closer and closer....UFA season getting closer and closer...buyout season getting closer and closer....

We are going to let you run an NHL roster and you will take home $1.5M per year after taxes.

We know it's harder work that working construction for $75K a year before taxes, but we'd really appreciate if you'd do us this favor.

Yeah it was a joke.

I think ott might be a better option if staying in Canada is important to him. Younger roster and more cap to work with.

Pitt it’s go hard now or bust. Also a difficult team to work with. The expectation is make a cup run in 1-2 years. Ott that window is much bigger.

Scouts are still scouting. Game tape is easily accessible nowadays for the draft. Ain’t that hard.

UFA negotiations can’t happen until a week before or something like that aside from internal UFAs, in which the Pens shouldn’t be talking to any of them outside Zucker.

These GMs that were interviewed likely already have a plan so it’s not like they’re starting from scratch.

The hold up isn’t that big of a deal.
