So much talk about Dubas and if he or the Leafs were at fault for him leaving.

From what we know, Dubas agreed in principle to a contract. He then publicly stated he wasn't sure if he wanted to continue being a GM for personal/family reasons. BS already stated he was blown away when he saw that presser - caught him by shock since he thought they had a deal. Then Dubas reneged on the deal and demanded more then what he agreed too....
How do we know that there wasn't already a lot of negotiating between Dubas and the Leafs to get to that deal they had in place?

Dubas handled himself very poorly from what we do know. This, coming from a GM with a huge amount of talent on his team (most of which he did not draft) that has only made it out of the first round once in 5yrs. He was in no position to try and strong arm the Leafs and BS did what almost any business would have done, fired the malcontent employee.

Again, this is based on what we know....there could be behind the scene things we don't know but based on what we do know, he was rightfully fired.

I say this and at the same point am not happy - as I liked Dubas and really did want him to stay. I just wanted the Leafs to fire Keefe's ass!

What the most prestigious teams in Canada? I'd say Team Canada, the Habs then the Leafs?

I guess the 2nd two are debatable.

Regardless, you aren't sure if you want to come back? Publicly ? Then you counter offer? Stones I guess. :lol

I can live with the idea he didn't do enough if that's how it was viewed.

My issue is to do with timing.

The other options are horrendous and whoever it is will need to make snap franchise altering decisions. Insanely bad spot to leave your organization.

I also don't like that Shanahan is still employed. Keeping him around to make poor bad decisions doesn't seem like the ticket either.

- joel878

What snap decisions?
Most of the important ones have already been initiated most likely.
You dont know what options shanny is looking at, youre only hearing what some click media are saying.
The mlse ownership group dont seem to think shanny makes bad decisions.

It seems discussions with Matthews is on going. Without a GM.

Its not the end of the world. Lots of time before the draft and free agency

Maybe for a game but I don't think confidence is an issue. Game speed for sure.

The new GM has a lot of cap space and more importantly, will bring in his own coach. Keefe was ok, but he made some head-scratching decisions more often than not, like putting out Kampf and friends when we were down a goal in the OZ.

Babs wasn't much better, with his bullpoop chickenpoop tactics like the infamous Marner "list" and sitting Spezza, playing veterans like Marleau over better, younger guys.

I'd like a progressive coach with experience at the NHL level, please and thank you.

Thing is Bobrovsky has been a cinderella frequently in his career. He could easily suck again for the entire series.

He could I guess? He's also won two vezina trophies hasn't he?

At his age the break is probably good, especially if he can maintain focus.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was just getting back to practice now aside from skating. Nice break.

Ever since maurice called out the team in Toronto, the panthers have been on fire.

I hope he keeps it going, i dont want to see vegas win a cup.

I hope Floriday wins too, because of all the morons on here that did not give them a chance against the Leafs.

How nuts is it that Eichel is in a better position to win his 1st cup rather than McJesus … correct team building matters.

Yeah he won two vezinas and has done nothing in the playoffs up until this point. Stats all say he's by a large margin, the best goalie performance since they began tracking advanced stats.

You said he thinks he keeps it going. I don't have an answer to my own question because of his history. It's a coin toss.

Do you know if they did not already negotiate to get tot he point where they had a deal in place? If that did happen, you think it's ok to come to terms and then renege on an agreed deal? I don't know many people or businesses that wouldn't fire or not hire an employee that reneged on an agreed upon deal.
- Cooshie

By Shanahan's words, he had dealt with Dubas' agent and had presented him the framework of a deal. Again, that is not the deal and the conversation was only beginning with Dubas. Now from Shanahan's perspective, he has every right to believe the agent is speaking directly for Dubas and represents him implicitly. The problem is that (a) we don't know, and (b) it was not a final contract offer - it was the framework for the deal.

You’re timing argument isn’t that worrisome if the game plan was in place with Shanahan and the ownership. Means intelligent people already know the direction they want to go and now they just need a GM who fits their view. Shanny is just the guy who has the convos between ownership and the employed.

Long story short, I’m guessing the leafs and Dubas weren’t seeing eye to eye.

I call it a boss move… they traded a terrific F in Tuch and Krebs along with another asset to go for it.. Stone - Petro - Patches - Martinez - Flower - … say whatever you want about them and the cap… there’s never any question if they’re all in.

As a fan that’s all you can ask for.

How much are we further ahead with this move? Are we backwards or stay the same. I have no idea anymore.

Really wish Dubas was in control still. I hope I’m wrong.

Went to that Jays Outfield District. Awesome. Ate a couple of three loonie dogs. There's a cheaper beer station, buddy hipped me to that. For 20 bucks you can't beat it.
