"According to Calgary Flames fans on my TL and in my mentions, Treliving is a forward thinking GM who was on a backwards thinking team

He wanted to develop a sports science division and state of the art training facilities but was stuck in oil country "

Any validity to this? Dunno. But backwards and oil country does fit.

Only good thing about this. Which, really, might've been there plan.

They knew they (frank)ed up and the fans, for the most part, didn't agree with Brendan's Shananigan's. So they leaked that they were interviewing the apparent only guy they wanted to hire, plus 3-5 of the absolute worst GM's of the past 8 years.

And when they don't hire those other bozos, the fans are "happy" about it.

- GreatGigInTheSky

They didnt (frank) up. Dubas did it seems.
The leafs dont make management decisions based on anything any fans says.

I would have prefer a new fresh gm but tree is who we got, so hopefully we see the leafs take a step in the playoffs.

Was hoping for a new coach, not sure if that occurs now.

Well he told them 'his version' of what happened and I have a hard time agreeing it's 'exactly' what happened. Generally the truth is somewhere in the middle of 2 versions of a story where there is some conflict or disagreement and we really only got Shanny's (MLSE's) side of the full story.

When was the last time you heard ANY organization lay out that detailed sequence of events with respect to a personnel move? I can't recall one - ever. And in my experience when people put that much effort into details it's often a sign of deception.

I don't think I can get back to where I was with respect to feeling good about Shanny at the helm - the only thing he can do to get me back is for the Leafs to win a cup! Come on Shanny win my heart back! lol

Doesn't matter - Shanny has a new human shield for us all to hate if he fails.

Tree-Living today - Tree-dead if Shanny needs some cover!

- Cush29

That’s why it was refreshing for me, so tired of the endless media speculation in TO. But now they just pivot and Shanny giving his version of the timeline becomes the scuttlebutt not the story itself. Anyways I didn’t feel that Shanny threw dirt out there, felt like he was just giving a timeline of events.
Regardless……I’m not a huge Shanny fan. I mean, I’m not hateful of the guy but I am disappointed. To me the organization needs to be aggressive and innovative. These athletes need to be treated with respect, which they are, but when results don’t come, changes need to happen. I think everybody recognized a couple of years ago that this core wasn’t going to get us there, and there wasn’t enough money left to support them the way they need, something has to change. At the very least the coach! But they just keep playing the same record expecting a new song to show up. When these players, that Management has refused to even consider trading, start walking when UFA’s, we will see the true catastrophic mismanagement of this team.

I live between Calgary and Edmonton so get the wrath of both Flames and Oiler fans. I do agree with this statement and am willing to give Tree a chance…….until the Matthews situation turns into a mess in just over a month. Sign or trade, end of story.

Shanny knows from personal experience how long it can take even for great players to win. Imagine if Yzerman had been traded to Ottawa before he won a Cup...that's the equivalent of what a lot of Leaf fans want to do

You would also think that Shanahan would know that you need players who are willing to go to the net to win a Cup.

Definitely not the best in the league. When was the last time they hit big on a lower picks?

Sure Knies looks good, but other then that? Their goalie drafting has been attrocious.

- Archaic

Can't really call it big, but Holmberg will most likely be a full time player next season for the Leafs and he was drafted in the 6th round.

If Robertson could stay healthy, that's another 2nd round guy that's full time.

One of the Leafs biggest prospects is Niemela, drafted in the 3rd in 2020.

Ty Voit was a top scorer in the OHL and he was a 5th round pick.

And for goalies, Woll was a 3rd and he'll be the backup next year. Ian Scott unfortunately had to retire even though he was drafted in 2017, due to injuries. And they drafted 2 Russian goalies that did very well this past season in Russia. And Hildeby, drafted last year, played a couple games for the Marlies.

We don't agree on Dubas.

But on Shanahan being ass backwards is where we do agree. Shanahan is clearly interested in calling the shots here. He's shaping the GM candidates thinking about Keefe, and he called the core and told them they are returning. If all this reporting is accurate, Shanny clearly is looking for a puppet GM. From this point forward, I'm considering Brendan Shanahan to be the true GM of this team.

Of course the new GM is going to agree with Shanny re Keefe. For one, Shanny is the boss. And two, it gives the new GM a bullet/layer of protection if things go sideways. You can always fire the coach who wasn't your choice to buy time.

This group desperately needs a core shakeup, AND a new voice behind the bench. However it really looks it's going to be run this mother(frank)er back. Again.

Will be interesting to see if he brings in any Flames in.

Lots of soon to be UFAs that new Flames GM said they would shop if they aren't looking to re sign.

Lucic- I'd sign for league minimum

Hanafin- One of the better skaters from the backend, something I think the Leafs struggled with in playoffs

Lindholm/Toffoli-Obviously would be in on them, as would any contender

Zadorov- Buyers beware

Shanahan was a baby. Got his feelings hurt and made a decision based entirely around it. End of.

If moving on from Dubas was the plan, I could accept it. But it wasn't. Shanahan wanted to sign him to a 5 year deal. Then he got his widdle feewings hurt, and flip flopped because of it.

That's actually sad.

Though the idea kind of terrifies me, does anyone else, just kinda, want to see what impact Tortorella, or someone similar, would have on Mathews/Marner?

Part of me would like to see if anyone could light a fire under their asses, before they are traded, and it's hard to think of a better choice for that.

What feelings? I dont understand this "got his feelings hurt" bs.
Dubas waivered, seemed to have negotiated in bad faith...thats bad business.
Shanny moved on.
This bs upset feelings some fans whine about seems a bit foolish imo
