Sure, but look at this trades and drafting....it all sucks. Again, what has he done well besides overpaying 3rd liners? poop didnt he trade Hamilton for poop all too? He literally sucks at everything.

The only trade he ever won was trading Rittich to the Leafs for a 3rd.

he got hamilton for picks that amounted to nothing and then traded Hamilton for hanafin and Lindholm. Both wins. Rasmus Andersson acquired for nothing.

Do we hate Tree-Living already?

Chop that MF down! Tree-Dead! (I've copyrighted this phrase for when he eventually gets fired).

drafting is more on the scouts. and TOR has more resources. Also Bennett, Tkachuk, Fox were pretty good choices

I'm not too worried about his drafting resume.

His trades and UFA signing though? Some of them are brutal.

That Kadri deal isn't gonna look good... well ever.

Im calm, just severely dissapointed. The Leafs are worse off today, and unfortunately I like watching the team.

Same on the bolded part, that was embarrassing to watch as a Leafs fan and to Aaron's point IMO make MLSE look bush league. What professional organization feels then need to air that dirty laundry & do a blow by blow account of the negotiations?

I used to be quite happy with Shanny at the helm, I'm questioning everything about him now, 10 years with the same level of playoff success everyone seems to put at the feet of the players, coaches and GM - when does the big boss get held accountable to any degree?

What superstar player or potential new GM watched that pile of horse poop & thought "oh yes, I'd like my negotiations play out in the media"? I mean if Matthews doesn't resign and any part of that is a result of what he saw happen to Dubas Shanny needs to be fired into the sun.

Finally I have no feelings, or opinion on Santo jogging or not.

- Cush29

I thought it was great that Shanny told the reporters exactly what happened. There was no dirty laundry just the chain of events of what happened. If Shanny gets up there and ate nothing then the endless media speculation starts, and the complaints that they are secretive, yadda yadda yadda. Honestly there is no winning with the Toronto media or fans, so at least we know and for me that’s good. He was sincere and to me tried to be respectful and at the same time lay out the facts.

With the options out there it was either going to be this or far worse.

I can settle for this knowing we don't have to watch Chiarelli, Bergevin or Mike Gillis butcher the organization and it be in the toilet for another couple decades as a result.

Yes, but he chooses the lineup. He is the most impactful non player in the organization.

You have to consider that attracting ufa’s to Calgary and Toronto, isn’t the same thing. Calgary has the oldest barn in the league and nowhere near the financial clout that the Leafs have. Not that I’m defending Tree, just saying, when you are GM of Calgary you are at a disadvantage right from the word go, compared to Toronto.

Keefe was bad in the playoffs, but the GM clearly has the most impact on the organization. Not sure that all that controversial of a statement.

not even about that, its just whats the point of replacing someone with someone ...who is not a clear improvement or may be worse.

but since 2018, the Leafs draft picks have played 386 games to Calgary's 26

Steve Simmons
@simmonssteve
One thing I can tell from experience, Brad Treliving is much better at the media game than Kyle Dubas was. And I suspect he’ll make himself available far more often than the often protected Dubas was. Toronto fans should like that.

now we are on to something.. Leafs can raise the 2023-24 "much better at the media game" banner to the rafters

How about pretty much all this trades. Ill give him a passing grade on the Tkachuk trade, and Toffoli was OK, but pretty much all the rest were bad/mid trades.

This sucks. I didnt love all of Dubas's moves, but Treliving sucks. Im officially on the fire Shannahan bandwagon. Can anyone explain what Treliving does well? Literally he has failed in all aspects of being a GM.

Dubas is a 100 times better then Treliving.

- Archaic

Put Dubas in Calgary and you’d see a different GM. The resource that the Leafs have is considerable in comparison.

For me, we will see very shortly what Tree is made of. Matthews needs to be signed or traded. End of story. Is Tree just a figure head that does what he’s told…..we will know very soon. I’m open to giving the guy a chance but I’ll know very quickly if I’m done or not.

Last time a former Flames GM got the job in Toronto, the Leafs ended up with Doug Gilmour.

That is fair of signings, but trades and drafting dont look good either.
