Matthews is franchise. Bedard is generational… you don’t just get those for 1 on 1

While I agree that he looks like the real thing, Bedard hasn't yet played a shift at the NHL level, so he's only as generational as Alex Daigle right now. That being said, it's an awful idea for both sides. They're both at different points

Toronto is in win now mode. They want the guy who can score 60 goals today, not the guy who may or may one day score 60 goals. If he won't resign, they they should trade him for immediate, proven talent.

Chicago is in win 3-5 years from now mode. They're banking on Bedard playing on his ELC and then winning in his prime. Matthews will be out of his prime by then.

It seems Caufield is is playing hardball on his new deal. Possibly a Marner/Caufield deal with one of the Habs D prospects or pick(s). Imagine a Mtl-Tor trade? When was the last one?

Seem to recall something like Tomas Plekanac for Kerby Rychel around 5-6 years ago. Not exactly a blockbuster.

The difference is that Bedard did it in the WHL, the toughest jr league in the world. No one has done that in 40-50 years. I watched him play 3x live and he makes something happen EVERY shift on both sides of the puck.

He’ll be the best player in the nhl in 3 years, if not two.

If Toronto is serious about acquiring Bedard, it starts with matthews + 5-1st rd picks to even get the Chicago GM to not hang up instantly.
