I know Chad dropped this a few days ago. Lots of Money but if he continues on his trajectory this will be a bargain in a couple years.
Makes Power even more intriguing, probably have to hope Adams can get him signed long term.

If Power signs a bridge deal, and the cap rises even modestly, there's no telling what the AAV will be on his next deal after the bridge.

A 6 year term was mentioned by the Evolving Hockey crew on Twitter last night as a possibility.

I mean Powers agent has to be drooling at the possibilities.

Adams will have to work in some magic for Powers' contract to be long term, given it will be his first non-ELC deal. With the Cap expected to go up significantly in a couple seasons that will need to be factored in...bringing a level of risk and uncertainty into negotiations.
Powers' side may wish to defer to a bridge deal for 2 - 3 years to get a better long term deal latter.
Will be interesting.

What's the AAV that you would agree to on a 7 or 8 year deal for Power right now?

If his agent said he'd sign a max term deal for $9.5M per, would you agree?

If not, how about $9M per?

If the AAV is under $9M, is it even a question?

I would go 9 right now if he would agree. Dahlin didn't have the luxury of having a D partner that could help him develop. If the Sabres happen to get that partner for Power. The kid could explode, you could end up paying 12 -13mill a year in 4yrs.

Bills are gonna have to make some adjustments. Looks like there about 5mill over the Cap at this point.

I think we'd all sign for that now.

If his agent said $9M for the AAV for 8 years, would you do it?

no one in the history of ever have paid a player that percentage of the cap after 1 year of play. If they extend him max right now (7/1) he's not breaking 7.5

Why would he sign for that AAV on a max term deal?

Does he not believe in the player he will ultimately be?

Does the team have doubts? Do you, after watching him?

They signed Samuelsson to a long term deal after 54 games, and it surprised a lot of people.

Power is a number one pick and looked like a franchise defenseman in his rookie season.

Your hard rule above would be broken, IMO.

If I'm Powers agent I am asking for 7.5mill on a 3yr Bridge deal at this point if we can't come to a long term number. And maybe I wait until next summer and we see what happens, but that number goes up.

if he signs long term right now, he's not breaking 8. no way, no how.

if he bridges, I bet it's 3x6.

Full ext. right now, 8x7.5.

You're right.

Power might get double the AAV that Samuelsson got on his long term deal.

If I am Power's agent, I wouldn't sign anything right now.

I'd wait until after next season ends.

That's it, they have to be salvating at the thought. Especially Powers agent. Hell he could ask for a 2yr Bridge and in 3yrs the cap has gone up and know he's holding Adams balls in his hand.

In 2 to 3 seasons time, he could want an $11M AAV based on his play.
