back to the russians. the pick makes sense even though it's not the guy I'd want.

Good Read!! The Cap is gonna make for some interesting decisions out there. Hope Adams keeps that phone charged.

The Kraken are interesting with Sourcy and Borgen.

I don't see that happening if Simashev is still on the board.

It wouldn't be the first time a Russian was projected too high to go to Buffalo. A ton of mocks had Buffalo picking up Yurov at 16 simply because the Sabres like Russians now and he didn't go until 24.

But (Boot) is mocked between 25-40 almost universally. Simashev averages out a bit higher in the 10-25 range.

I'd take Simashev over But at this point, but the Sabres are actively looking for physical, hard to play against, talented forwards. Getting an Alex Tuch into the org, or even a nastier version of him would be great.

However, I do wish they'd stop pushing Russians to the Sabres simply because the Sabres accept Russians now. A lot of teams do. I wouldn't be too surprised to see But go to Buffalo with their Flyers pick.

What a trade they didn't have to make, if he would have tried harder, the Sabres make the playoffs this year. Boss I like some of the things Adams has done and not some he hasn't. His Defense and Goaltending have been bad since he took over. Trying a bit harder on either front and we are not talking 13-14yrs anymore.
- Buff36

Agreed on goaltending. Although holding a space for levi makes sense to me. Maybe not everyone.

Defense is a matter of young core players needing ice time to get better at their positions. Just cant age these guys quickly.
They have used the 1st oa pick on 2 defenseman in 5 years, so it's a bit unfair to act like KA ignored the position

It's not a matter of "trying harder", I think KA takes his time with the evaluation process and doesnt veer from.his plans easily.

This summer they need to add a 2nd pairing defenseman and a vet goalie. Although I'm not sure the vet goalie part is gonna happen. Just my opinion.

A few people, Chad included, feel pretty strongly that there will be changes in goal.

I'd like a guy like Varlamov personally. Very russian (player friendly) organization.

Do you think the Sabres add a 1A or a 1B backup?

What's chad think?

I'm sold on the organization rolling with Levi as the starter IMO.

Curious on your thoughts

Any Takers ? If the Sabres thought about this, I would try and get one of those 2nds moved to next year.

- Buff36

Dont want him, cant play a lick of Defense...IMO he is a liability on D and not what the Sabres need.

Rochester could be very interesting next year.

Just about everyone in the Buffalo Sabres fanbase was shocked when Ryan Johnson signed his entry-level deal, but now that he’s officially part of the organization, all eyes will be on the former 31st overall pick. Johnson’s play picked up steadily over his four seasons in college, and if that trend continues in the AHL, he will inevitably find himself on NHL ice.

I remember when a bunch of c*ckholsters said he's not signing here.

I've been pounding the table on doing what they need to do to acquire a body like Varlamov, Andersen or Hill. I know people scoff at Hill, whatever.

The ideas of Hart and Hellebuyck are great but they don't fit with how the org views Levi. I'd be stunned. Stunned. If they traded for one of those guys. While both make sense very short term, the acquistion cost just to split duties with Levi for the next couple of years and then one of them takes over 2/3's of the games in 2-3 years, I just don't think the Sabres want to do that.

The short term vet, whether you're trading for him or signing in UFA, makes the most sense to me by far. I don't know how the org view Korpisalo but based on his recent past I think you could get him on a 2-3 year contract. Which is what I believe is exactly what they want.

Pepperidge Farm remembers when 69 would never post here again if he signs here.

Very good post.

Helly and hart just aren't what the Sabres are trying to do IMO, as you said.

I guess I'm a bit off, thinking the organization does indeed like upl and he's a very cheap nhl backup.

I'd get a vet 1B, and I still believe we see 55+ starts for levi next season.
Yes, I realize that would pretty much lead the league in starts ect.

My understanding: they promised quite a bit to lock levi into a Sabres uniform. Including the starting job, with no restrictions..... he plays good , he plays often.

Last year 7 of 9 was just the start.

The Sabres like to make it seems like they are in on everyone - another Beane style management play Adams took.

While the goalies you mentioned above would be considered to fill the short term role, why would Adams do that while he has Comrie locked up for another season?

Is it worth the effort to try to make a goalie swap with another team?

I can see a scenario where the Sabres get Hart for UPL ++, let him and Levi battle for a few years and trade one down the line.
