Tip turns into Tkachuk, TK is TK Coots is Coots, Cates is Coots Lite, Frost is G Lite, Hart is Price like, York in Montour, Cutter is Barkov and #7 Malkin like. Our top 3 prospects Foerster etc all hit their lid.

There, problem solved, LOL

You obviously don't understand corporate structure or what hockey operations is.

I will try to simplify it for you...Jones is not going to say "Hey get faster players" and Danny trades for the fastest players.

He OVERSEES Operations, not crafts his Ultimate Team.

quick question for you.

So when the new GM of the leafs is hired, do you think he will be following the direction/vision of the team Shanhan lays out for him? Or will the GM be running the show?

Apparently Shanny needs to revisit his vision because it's not working.

Now MY vision is a team that scores lots of goals, gives up no goals and wins.

I got good visions!

Zito was interviewed by the Flyers. But Chuck was all but hired by the point.

Dave Scott liked their respective backgrounds: Ivy League college (Harvard for Chuck, Yale for Zito) then a player agent then an AGM then a GM with Chuck having had prior NHL experience and Zito not. But Zito had the better talent assessment track record (as an agent, he specialized in pursuing low profile or undrafted players he thought could be NHL sleepers, which is how he came to represent Tim Thomas, Kimmo Timonen, Brian Rafalski and Ville Leino among his early clients. As a GM in Florida, he brought aboard Verhaeghe for peanuts, and now he's a 40-goal scorer). Everyone has some misses, and Zito isn't immune, but he is very sharp.

- bmeltzer

Fake news …. Cf was basically hired by then because clarke was involved. Zito had no chance. Call a spade a spade.

He was hired to break up the big three and rebuild. The owners had a change of heart and mandated that he sign Geno and Letang and retool on the fly instead. Hilarity ensued.

It also stated that what he felt needed to be done (let Letang and Malkin walk)and what ownership wanted (retain the big three) were two very different things.

That also sounds familiar.

I’m not totally absolving him. I think his ability to evaluate players is questionable at best. But if there’s a lot of truth to that then it’s not his fault he was the totally wrong hire from the start.

Yes you're right...Jones should hold a press conference every day. He should stand up there and tell everyone how tired he is from working so hard. That will help calm everyone.

If you can explain in detail what Jones should be doing then feel free to do so, otherwise sit in the corner in t-rex pose screaming "Do stuff!".

- Glak18

Keith Jones should be busy evaluating the hockey ops department. From the GM to the scouts, the coaches, analytics, medical, training, down to guys who fill the water bottles up. Wholesale changes and adjustments need to be made. They need to completely change the way they operate. Time is ticking.

I don’t get any of the negativity that Keith Jones takes a few hours out of a few days a week to commentate the NHL playoffs. While he’s calling a game on Monday Night he certainly could be in zoom conferences with agents, Briere, Torts, assistant POHO, etc. during the day. It doesn’t mean he’s not doing his job, it just means he’s doing an extra part time job temporarily. There is no harm in watching excellent hockey, talking with players and coaches and front office personnel. Not one shred of evidence has come out that the Flyers are displeased or he’s not performing his responsibilities.

I get it, we all love to find fault and complain. It’s what we do as Flyers fans. It’s what we’ve been relegated to by years of ineptitude and being sold a bill of goods.

- mikeyo27

He's had the job for what, 2 weeks? Looking at if there is any evidence of anything about the Flyers being displeased is premature. We do have evidence however that Jones is not 100% focused on his job as POHO

What exactly do you think the job President of Hockey Operations does? Do you think he's creating strategy for the club and trying to find the right players?

The job, for ALL clubs, entails mostly with the OPERATION side of the franchise. If you are unhappy with the giveaway nights or cost of beer, yes feel free to continue to complain, but complaining just to complain still doesn't change a thing...nothing.

- Glak18

As President of hockey operations. Is he not on the operations side of the franchise?

Where is that in his Comcast structured job description? Isn't the hockey side including scouting, personnel etc under the purview of the GM? He is a conduit between Comcast and the GM, and a communication specialist.

You dont get the negativity? are you new to this site? lol People complain here, same complaints over and over for some reason. It would be fun to see a tracker how many times mjl bashed RR and Torts. Rinse and repeat, he brings nothing new of substance to the convo.

I dont have any issues with what Jones is doing at all. I will judge later when there are results from his actions.

- bradster

I also don't have an issue with Jones doing games either and will judge later once we see how this all works out. I'm behind a few days on here, but has it been brought up that perhaps Jonesy is fulfilling the commitment that he made to call the games? He's been doing it for years and I'm sure he enjoys what he does. Maybe he is prepping for his Flyers gig during the day for all we know.

If watching the playoffs in person is so damn valuable and being there doesn't take up valuable time, why aren't the GMs and Presidents of every NHL team in the building for these Conference Finals?
- Feanor

Oh wow…

It’s Keith Jones current job to be there! It is his current obligation!! The other president you named aren’t obligated to be there!!

Oh boy…

So, are you're saying it's OK for him to be working the second job because his job as POHO is a farce? Because that's basically what I said.
- Dkos

Is this what I said?

I asked you a direct question that you failed to answer. What are Jones current responsibilities as president that needs his immediate attention, which you complete avoided answering.

I’ll add a second question. Why shouldn’t Jones follow up his broadcasting career outside of Flyers normal business hours or on his free time? Let’s say you decided to add another job on your current full time job, does your full time employer have the right to tell you, you can’t?

I can’t wait to hear the answer to this.

What exactly should he be doing right now for the Flyers?
- WhiskeyMan

Honest question…
That's a really good question. What does a POHO do? I can tell you that it looks like the vast majority of them don't have a second job, yucking it up on tv, 6 weeks before the draft.
- Dkos

Avoids answer again.

Look, I hope he turns out to be great and leads the Flyers to the cup...but right now, to me, his working the TNT gig makes it look like he and the Flyers are not taking things seriously. This club's a mess. If he cant find something he should be doing as the brand new POHO, one week into getting the job, I dont know what to say.
- Dkos

Again, what should Keith Jones currently be doing? Working 24 hours a day without a draft, without free agency to improve the current status of the team? At the snap of his fingers on May 23 2023 at 7:04pm, what should Keith Jones be doing for the Flyers to improve them? This is our question to you.

That's kind of my concern with Jonesy....that he thinks he'd just be sitting in an office with nothing to do...or, that he's not really there to do anything anyway. But, you're probably right; the Flyers have earned our trust. I'm sure they know what they're doing.
- Dkos

What should Keith Jones be doing? You’ve been asked multiple times. You put up the challenge and never answers the question.

Bill, Hockey Reference has Frost and Adam Gaudette as comparables in Similarity Score(players with careers of similar quality and shape) ending in 2021-22. Frost took a big step up in 2022-23 so that comparison no longer looks valid. Is there a current NHL player that you could compare with Frost?
- Minnyhock

Right now I would say Yanni Gourde.

It really is this simple. I’ve never read a bigger collection of clueless comments ever anywhere. Most people are at home or a bar watching the games on their free time. He’s choosing to call them on TNT and somehow it’s a sin.

AS the President of an NHL team, please help me understand what are normal business hours. Do you think a President of a sports team is on call pretty much 24/7?

Yes an employer can in situations tell you that working another job is not allowed. That is not out of the ordinary.
