I don't think it's splitting hairs at all. If he wants to go to the games he can go in his capacity as president. He can do all the schmoozing he wants as president. Are you saying he's gaining some kind of advantage, that other team presidents don't have? Doesnt seem likely. This just makes me feel like he isn't serious about his new job or that the job itself isn't serious. I don't think, when they announced him as president, they said he'll start his job after he finishes up working the playoffs.

The job itself isn’t that serious. If it was, others would’ve been interested/interviewed for the position.

I saw a comment on the last blog about it not being a big deal that the Flyers new POHO is working his second job doing the playoff games because there’s nothing for him to do right now anyway. Seems to me a guy starting a new job, that he has no previous experience doing, would have plenty to do right now. I know that Jonsey is a gladiator, a hockey genius and the hardest working guy in the business, but seems to me he doesn’t have time to waste if he’s serious about fixing this mess.
- Dkos

I’ll say it again because people around here who claim to be smart don’t get it. He’s currently covering the best possible hockey of each season. He’s watching a level of hockey currently that we need to get to. If you don’t see the benefit of this, that sounds like a you problem.

Sadly for the Flyers, the subject experts in charge back in 2019 decided that Clarke's little buddy Chuck was a better option for GM than Barry Zito.

Since Zito took over Florida in 2020, they have the 5th best regular season record and the 5th best postseason record. In that same period the Flyers are ranked 26th in the regular season, and missed the playoffs three times in a row.

- Feanor

I was 100% all for Zito being the GM here. Once feltch got hired I couldn't believe what I was reading knowing the damage that he had just done in Minnesota. Then he trashes this franchise. He's on a milbury and Chia level as fsr as I am concerned.
But, yeah, just imagine if they did something smart like hire Zito instead.
But of they hired him What would we be complaining about in here today though?
Hex and fleece me feltch have left us oh so mamy gifts and topics to discuss though!

He is still doing his old job because his new one doesn’t have much to do outside of being a PR mouthpiece for the Flyers rebrand.

Sure, he will be there for the other two members of the triumvirate but other than that, not much to it.

- StepfordSam

Pretty much.

If anyone can tell me exactly, specifically, what the Flyers need him for right this second, I’ll apologize to anyone who needs to hear any apology.

said botteril was out in pens blog

anyone see the hextall athletic article? I have not if so any funny stuff to pass along?

- hello it's me 2050

The Hexy article was some good reading. It basically called him unprepared, not trust worthy, created an us Vs. Them culture with in the organization and was prone to bad decisions….sound familiar?

Yeah, it sucks for him that Florida didn't have a goalie going nuts last summer and only had one player on the team who outscored 34 year old Giroux. But he's probably more miffed about the 14 years he spent in Philly while the boobs in charge failed to put together a contending team around him.
- Feanor

He loves the fans but how do you think he feels about the franchise and how they run him out of town? And how they pissed away his best years? Do you think that he is bitter?

Hired to break them up yet he never did? Wouldn't that have been the first order of business?

is this article Hextall giving his side of the story? Was he interviewed?

- hello it's me 2050

Seemed like the plan was to just let them walk in UFA. They both had NMCs.

He definitely needs to brush up on his people skills. Trying to plow ahead with changes without securing allies first is gonna get you stabbed in the back every single time.

If watching the playoffs in person is so damn valuable and being there doesn't take up valuable time, why aren't the GMs and Presidents of every NHL team in the building for these Conference Finals?

He can only do that by being a color commentator for TNT? Too bad all the other NHL presidents are missing out on this great opportunity.

It also stated that what he felt needed to be done (let Letang and Malkin walk)and what ownership wanted (retain the big three) were two very different things.

That also sounds familiar.

I don't see any perks to sitting at a broadcast booth and watching the same game and same shots that all of us have. I do perks to where jonesy is able to telk face to face with other executives and people of importance in other organizations. From all that I have read it seems Jonesy has strong connections with a lot of other franchises. That could be valuable.
I can see how it is odd that he is still doing TV but that also may lead people to believe that DB and Torts have more say in roster construction than jonesy does?
I don't know. Sadly, Everything this franchise does is questionable at this point

Could it possibly be that you do not get it?

He has no management experience. He should be getting acclimated with everything that entails don't you think? Submersing himself into hos new role. Nah no need as he is getting a birds eye view.

yet when they kept all 3 he still did a piss poor job with all his other transactions. He was given a "mandate" , like chuck. They both failed.

Was he interviewed for this article?

So, are you're saying it's OK for him to be working the second job because his job as POHO is a farce? Because that's basically what I said.

So if he went into hiding in an office then the perception that he is grinding it out would help you sleep better?

It's an absolute fluff job with a high salary. His day to day is probably going to consist of BSing on phone calls then grabbing food to golf after. When something big happens he will read a script that was prepared for him. It's purely a PR and relations job.

If things go good he will be a hero, if they don't it will be dinosaurs screaming for his head.

what the flyers do has zero effect on my sleep patterns.

There was the change in ownership and the new guys wanted a different direction. When he was hired that was the plan…that changed.
