I'm not giving him any credit. I know he wanted Trochek instead of Malkin and he would have wasted Letang's cap space on someone else useless. He killed the flyers and then tried to kill us. I'm just hoping we can dump some of his bad deals and bring in something else. - burgh4life87
No, he made bad decisions, he's not absolved from all blame lol but he was hired to do a different job than what we (and FSG) wanted him to do.

It's just a tough structure to work with for a GM. While I generally think it's good to cater to your best personnel, It might be harder to make some changes when other opinions are part of the equation.
I'm not fine with it, but I understand it. - madmike71
I think that the coach definitely SHOULD have input on the rosters, not all the input obviously but I feel like weekly meetings to discuss potential moves, where the team needs to improve, where the coach sees issues/etc. should be the norm in a cohesive team build.
If the coach and GM aren't on the same page, it's all for nothing.
The question is... did Sully know that Hextall was hired to rebuild? Sully wants to win, he's a coach, that's what all coaches want to do. It was just a terrible decision from Morehouse.

What do we think Morehouse’s endgame here? Mario, his boss, didn’t want to tear it down. Was Burkle in his corner? What kind of kamekaze insubordination was this on his part? |

I don't disagree with that at all. If they're not having regular discussions, you end up with the mess they just had. Just saying there needs to be a hierarchy and the GM should be making the final decisions.
As to your second point... It's ridiculous if Sully wasn't informed about the direction of the team.

Seriously feels like it was covert sabotage by Morehouse and his dog Hextall |

"Hextall put Kapanen on waivers the day after fans chanted for his firing. Somewhat shockingly, the St. Louis Blues claimed him. Hextall told other members of the front office that Kapanen would become a better player elsewhere and that Sullivan was holding him back."
This is what got me. It's not like they "weren't on the same page" Hextall genuinely didn't like or respect Sullivan. |

I just don't think Morehouse ever belonged in that position. It was easy to steer the ship when you're winning cups and printing money with a superstar roster. When there was a need for real team strategy, he was in way over his head. I'm sure FSG saw right through him.
He came from the world of politics. Those scumbags use people and flush them when they feel you no longer serve their purpose. |

He was supposed to be here only for the building of the arena. No idea how he weaseled his way into such a prominent position for as long as he did.
Funny - Madden said during the season that despite the sellout streak, the Penguins were doing better financially from gate revenue because Morehouse gave away so many free tickets because he was obsessed with maintaining the sellout streak.

Honestly, no clue. End game had to be just oversee a rebuild, even though Mario was known for not wanting another "Jagr" type situation.
Makes me happy to see JJ back in the Burgh at his old stomping grounds, really hope we get to see a 68 up in the rafters this year. That would be awesome. Easily my favorite player of all time.

I always believed Morehouse had no business running the Penguins. He's a creature from the political world. That's why the Steelers just hired him to extort taxpayer money for something. While I think Hexy was awful, I agree with Boyd where he doesn't deserve all the blame. He got hired with one directive only to have the script flipped in the blink of an eye.
That article confirmed what I believe... Sullivan and Sid have all the power. - madmike71
I’d rather Sid just have all the power. F Sullivan. |

His instagram post got me all excited. No doubt FSG will use that to help with fan outreach after this last year. |

Woah Mark Madden is big time in on Dubas. Is it possible that we have a candidate that could unite Grinder with the rest of us? |

Notre Dame did a bunch of gymnastics and jackassery to justify their sell out streak claim despite attendance clearly dropping. Those streaks really (frank)ing matter to some people. |

Finally read that Athletic article from today…how tf did FSG not clean house before the deadline? I don’t think they would’ve kept Hextard and Burke even if they had gone on a cup run. |

Hextall should have been fired the minute he said he didn't have a plan written down. |

1,000% agree. The article phrased it as FSG not having enough hockey knowledge to make a proper decision at the time. Granted the entire thing reads like a hit piece, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there isn’t truth to it / it’s not hard to see both Hextall and Burke are awful FO executives. |

Watching the Fla game. I like their jerseys.
But looking up their rosters.
Carolina seems crazy young and pretty cheap deals mostly.
Revisited the thachuk trade. Hubradeau is signed for 8 more years till he’s like 37. Only put up 43 pts….I think the flames fired that gm. Stay away from that guy.
Any chance spencer knight could be a rehab project somewhere? |

Seems like Burkes role was community relations. I read somewhere that he dealt with large advertisers too. Basically the roles Hextall reportedly hated. I don't think he had any control over team personnel.
I don't remember if it was mentioned in the story, but Rossi said Hextall and Sullivan had almost zero communication since November......kind of shocking. |
