Hearing a lot a tid bits from a lot of things but crickets from Van media on what Van has done at the combine or interviewed.
- manvanfan

Yes I’ve been combing Twitter but not hearing much on Vancouver. Lots from the Coyotes and Flyers but nothing from the whale.

You’re putting a lot of stock in a few blowhard comments of a new regime, which happens all the time LOL! To me they clearly said we overestimated how good the team was and then came back with “this team needs major changes”. During that process they also said it’s extremely difficult to make moves in the current climate, which is obviously true when you have few assets to make things happen.

I take issue with two things, the timing of Miller’s contract, not the value of it, he’s worth that much in the current market. Secondly, the Boeser contract, that was completely unnecessary. Everything else is fine to me. I sincerely hope it gets better, but I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t.

You just need to be patient and see how it plays out because you have zero information on what they have to deal with from the owners or from what other teams are telling them. You can always cheer for the Coyotes when the turn the corner in a few years.

Miller might be worth that on the current market, but the problem is he's never going to get any better and probably will decline quickly given his style of play and his age. You can argue that it was better to sign him over Horvat, and that might still be true, but if that were the case then they should have traded Horvat right away instead of keeping him and dragging things out until close to TDL when they were forced to make a move. We'll never know if they decided to trade Horvat right away if they could have done better than a 1st (turned into Hronek), Raty and Beauvillier (not that I'm saying that's a horrible deal, just that I think they could have maybe done better if they traded Horvat the instant they put all their chips in Miller and Boeser.

I may not have information on what they deal with owners, but I do know FA having interacted with him many times while playing golf at his golf course at Golden Eagle and him having fired the entire staff for no reason due to the golf course not doing as good as he expected it to considering it's location/lack of amenities and a much better and lavish course not even a few kilometers down the road in Swan-E-Set. So yeah, I can say with certainty that FA has a short temper, doesn't take losing well, micromanages to a degree that's unhealthy and acts like he knows better than anyone else.

Maybe that's because the Canucks have no interest in building through the draft and will be trading all their picks

It is sort of nice to not have them showing their hands but also leaves a lot to the imagination.

Nighty posted the Facebook post the other day but Canucks social media is doing a "building blue" and profiling Canucks prospects and having development team members give their takes with some highlights.

You speak as though the Miller contract is unique to the Canucks, I hate to break it to you, but it isn’t. There’s a heck of a lot of guys and teams who do the exact same thing. MacKinnon just signed at 28 years old for eight years at over 12 million, do you think they care if he’s gonna not be worth 12 million at age 36? Gaudreau, same thing, 30 years old right now and signed long term for around 10 million. I could name off several players here, Benn, Seguin, Kadri, Doughty, Jossi, Hertl, Couture, Kucherov, Stamkos, etc. They don’t care, teams wanna win now, they’ll deal with that later.

You’re getting into nitpicky stuff, there’s nothing wrong with the Horvat deal or the deal for Hronek, I think both deals were excellent under the circumstances. I keep Miller 100 times out of 100 and I’m definitely glad they felt the same way.

As per my post above, I think the Canucks new management has an excellent opportunity here to get out of the cycle they've been on, they can be competitive AND utilize the draft and have a bright future. Something that was lost during the Benning era. Hypothetical here but if the Canucks move back they can have a 1st, 2nd and two 3rd round picks here to go along with three 4th round picks. That to me is a big step in the right direction and it's been a LONG time since they've had that kind of draft equity in one draft.

The trading of Bowie Horvat was a massive, although understated, step in the right direction for the Vancouver Canucks franchise. How long has it been since they traded a young valuable pending UFA for a good return? 2014? They got a middling prospect in Raty, a decent LW in Beauvillier and flipped the first round pick for a young offensive right shot dman. If they can move back and acquire more picks, or draft a really good young player, I think we are moving in the right direction here.

The downside is they completely messed up with Boeser's contract and they thought the team was better than it actually was with the "Bruce There It Is" bump. The 2023 draft is going to be an exciting, or disappointing, time in their history!!

Moving back is the dummest idea you have had yet. Congrats 🥳

I'm sure during the post combine interviews things will leak out even though I can't see I remember hearing anything last season about who they met with.

Damn this new regime is good aren't they?

No one knows yet. Well, maybe Darius and Vantel lol. But like every other management group in the history of the NHL, they’ve just gotta limit those mistakes.

They stopped the leaks. They gave Cheech's old job to Ferarro so no more leaks.

I give them props they are doing an excellent job.

I won't watch the draft because I know every year it is just like when Charlie Brown goes to kick the football and Lucy pulls it away. I will read about who we are disappointed with later if they do keep the pick.

Is Miller's deal unique? No, was it a good idea? Debateable, especially since most of the players you name are actual stars in the league of which Miller was not until his contract year. MacKinnon was a 1OA pick, Seguin was a 2OA, Stamkos was 1OA, Doughty 2OA and so on, other than maybe Hertl, Couture and Kadri, are players who are in the top 10 of NHL scoring and for the most part showed the trajectory of being elite. It's not an apple to apples comparison, it's closer to maybe Mark Stone or Max Pacioretty who are the same power wingers that had one or two good years later in their prime that got huge extensions because of it.
