I look forward to the Tsunami of tears on draft day.
- VanHockeyGuy

Based on what & why?

Say no picks traded or gotten. So it is predicted outright pessimism or Canuck fans always see the glass is 1/2 empty outlook cuz of history that isn’t relevant to this draft?

Personally I choose an open mind approach & I fully expect a part of the fanbase to always whine just to hear themselves & join that mob for feel good lol

They need to acquire a second round pick and still manage to draft a good defenseman or center in the first round. I look forward to the 28th.

I've said this many times before, but I'll say it again. You don't have to hit a homerun all the time, you just have to keep stacking good draft picks one after the other over time to build a good team. I believe Allvin and this group know the importance of the draft.

If the Canucks moved back to 17th and get two second round picks for their trouble they don't have to hit a homerun, they just have to take a Filip Chytil type of player, who was taken 21st overall, and then get serviceable NHL kids in the second and third rounds.

Head over and read Bill Meltzer's blog on the draft, good read!!

"For 2023, my Sleeper of the Year is Swedish forward David Edstrom. A two-way center with good size (6-foot-3, 187 pounds), Edstrom had a solid 2022-23 season in Sweden for Frölunda at both the J20 and even the SHL level (two goals, four points in 11 games). He capped it off with a very impressive U18 World Championship for Team Sweden, posting five goals and eight points in seven games."

Anytime can draft prospects that are future serviceable NHLers is a win. A 3C is always in demand & we need one from either Raty or a draft pick. Depth D is a must & we need more with size & mobility. Not every pick is going to be Top 6 or top 2 D. We have a good start on the core & need quality support players. Those are in the system but yet to make an impact. There is where most of our hope lies.

Dobbers final rankings, everyone is all over the map.

I would suggest looking at rankings that someone with NHL experience or is in and around the NHL. Public rankings are actually becoming worse, statically.

"We're building from within," Armstrong said. "It's really hard to get key guys in your organization unless you draft them. It's a drafting league. You look at all the top players in the league, they usually stay with the team that drafted them. Not always, but usually. So for us, it's the only way to get elite players and help us to take that next step to win a championship."

The Canucks have always struggled obtaining draft picks. They also seemly tend to trade 2nds for some reason. Don't hold you breath!

They seem to have secondroundinitis, a hyper allergic reaction to second round draft picks. For their safety they clearly can't be around them.

The second round picks, or lack of, is truly baffling! I don’t understand it, at all. That said, this group has the chance to grab a pick or two in the second round this year and have a tremendous draft.

Are you talking the same group that traded a first a second and two thirds in this draft or did we get a new mgmt team?

I was thinking this plays into what VHG was saying, someone’s going off the board and taking someone before they’re suppose to. Which means a really good player could be there at #11.

Makes perfect sense at their stage of a rebuild & need. Both are not a reach or that much of one & why rumour of the pick is in play for a trade.

Yes, all that was done for reasons lost on you, however, there’s still a good chance they can draft a good kid and add to their draft equity in the process.

And for the record, they didn’t trade away any third rounds picks in this draft, they added one from Toronto so they now have two.

Yes well everything is not fixed yet so what assurance do you have that more of the same reasons won't be used again with the 11th pick. Lets face it they brought in Hronek with a first and a second and he has played 3 games so really nothing has been fixed yet which seems to be lost on you.

You’re not fixing everything in a couple moves lol, it’s a process. They traded a pending UFA who was asking for ridiculous money for a 1st, a young LW and a decent prospect. They flipped the first and our second for a young right shot dman, an organizational need.

They didn’t trade away any third round picks in 2023, as you stated above, they added one pick and now have two, 3rd’s. They also have three 4th round picks. I don’t know what’s gonna happen but there’s an opportunity there to get more picks, as has been reported. There’s also an opportunity to piss all their picks away. We’ll see how it plays out but I’m hoping for the former.
