Public rankings are getting uglier and uglier.
- manvanfan

I read the explanations why certain players were ranked so much lower and others higher that were not thought of in other rankings.

But Reinbacher falling so far down is a head scratcher. I get Simashev ranking at 10 which is why I don’t think Canucks will get him. Plus ASP gone in top 10 as well.

Willander is my fall back now for D. I am certain all the good centers will be gone in top 10 as well and don’t like the rest so much to grab at 11.

Hows that sun on your skin down there?

No issues, it was hotter in the Middle East. Hats, sunscreen, shade and common sense.

Great pass by Eichel, such a great player…despite what Boston fan Reuby thinks of him.

Okay not bad for D but that leaves gap at center on the wrong development and compete time line.

This the reason it’s a rebuild is you’re losing your 1C for a few years until Carlson is ready for that. Which means your core will age up and if that’s the case might as well go full in.

Only reason Canucks are not rebuilding and trying to stack players 25 and under is to fit with Petey and QH plus Demko prime compete years. This is why CBJ wants to trade their pick. As it won’t help how they have set up the team. They need prime ready now. So do Canucks.

However, if Canucks can add Carlson like moving JTM plus. Then they can stopgap a UFA to fill in at 2C. Carlson comes in as 3C and works up. When he overtakes Petey in 5 years Petey can be the 2C.

Why I say that with Petey, who is developed, if you move him, you then should move the rest of the core. Then rebuild with what you bring in.

I know the term win now gets thrown around a lot but we finished 11 th last year and it doesn't sound like ownership are in favor of buying out a big name player to create cap room and we are anchored with contracts for at least two to three years.

I think the win now thinking is a fantasy unless they make big bold moves.

Look at Seattle two years ago had nothing and this year second round of the playoffs .

I was screwing around on CapFriendly (I don't post them on there, more of a pass of time). I did this one with an active trade offseason. It gives you a scoring forward group, a much more decent D group, the goalie situation takes a big hit , and gets rid of your AHL players off the NHL roster.

The big thing to look at is the long term cap room and flexibility you would have to fix the holes of the 23 season. It would give you a lot of flexibility to build year to year even if you don't hit your goal that year. The main thing is you have your future 1C 1RHD and 1G all starting the same time.

If we miss the playoffs the next two seasons, we can tie Toronto, for pooptiest stretch by a franchise all time. So there’s that.

Intersting to see how he fares as a pro in Abby. He really took a jump in his D+1. Just don’t know if it’s circumstances or development play talent related.

I'd do that, Fantilli is a natural center and will likely score as much, maybe more than Petey in his prime. Problem is, there's no way in hell the Ducks do that deal as they aren't even close and Petey is going to want 10.5-11+ for 8 years and the Ducks aren't going to want to pay that much.

Well….six years to win a Stanley Cup, imagine. Of the expansion teams to do it so quickly, the Oilers did it in five years, Vegas in six and the Flyers in seven years.

Technically, the Oilers were part of a merger, so not really an expansion team.

True…although technically the NHL “expanded”, they were part of a merger with the WHA.

This is why I stick to central scouting and Bob Mack, who consults scouts directly. Too much bs and misinformation out there. Literally have gone from no D in the top ten to what 2-3 now?!

That's a misguided, generalized statement not based on actual facts , in fact you can look it up, the arctic and antarctic have depleted ozone areas that the damage to skin can be far more then the American or even African desert regions

This is what I don’t get. To push for a rebuild and lament about lack of playoffs.

A proper rebuild takes 5-10 years where there is not any hope of playoffs. So don’t understand the logic. Either sit back for a decade collecting draft picks and trying to develop them or retool what you have to find what works.

Canucks are on a long loser run so either they shed dead weight salary to retool or just move assets to draft and rebuild.

It often happen that D rise high by draft day so won’t be surprised. At the same time I don’t know enough about the team priorities 5-10 rankings to influence their selection.

So at this point anything can happen. What the consensus is that real good talent is available. What the Canucks need is obvious. What they will have available seems murky. So many choices on wingers and that’s great and all but we all know enough is enough lol. The fear is a reach on D gets you an OJ and you miss out on a KT. Problem is it’s so hard to get top cost controlled D that it’s just worth the risk.

At this point what do Canucks have to lose? More years of futility. We are used to that and Management groups and coaches getting fired. It’s the Canuck way.

Some comparisons is Panthers 2nd trip to SCF, just like Canucks, they won 1st SCF game. But down 3-1 now. Is Barkov like Bure to get Panthers with KT, say in the Linden role to a game 7? Difference here he’s playing with one arm so might be a tall ask.

The league wants the Vegas story. They can keep expanding and selling owners on the Cup dream saying look at VGK. Plus well you know hockey was first pro team to hit Vegas to take in the revenue. Bottom line they sell more than Miami. Just like Rangers sold more than Canucks. It’s a market driven game in the end winning is about business.

Many scouts have said the highest they would take a D on talent in this draft is early to mid teens. They have also said they will be a bit overvalued by that and public rankings now throwing 3 or more D inside the top 10.

As I said though Shakir Muldiilin was taken 20th in a lesser draft and came with a bit more jam coming into the draft but now a comparable is to be taken 10th?
