Yup and everyone was done with the Pens in 2015 as well after 6 straight years of mostly outted by round 2, besides the 3rd round sweep by the Bruins in 2013, that is....I mean, the Leafs got Tampa, who went on to win the cup two and three seasons ago, and then Florida in the 2nd round this season who are looking like they might sweep the Canes...the Canes who made the Devils look like an AHL team...the Devils who came back from down 2-0 to the Rangers and took that series.

I didn't know James Tanner had an alt on here.

So you're hoping that the Pens sign Dubas and he has the same amount of success in Pittsburgh as he did with Toronto?

No. I just think a lot of people are incapable of looking at bigger pictures and considering more than just W/L on a given night or in a playoff round. I think he did a lot of really good things for the Leafs. I think the NHL is a f'n crazy hard place to win a championship in. I think there's been a lot of crazy good rosters not win the cup over the years (ie 1993 Penguins), a lot of hall of famers have never ever hoisted. I think its possible someone like Dubas has gotten better and better with more experience and that could continue.

Who do you want for GM of the Penguins and what are their successful team building credentials?

It's all "luck" and being "goalied."

After 5 years, maybe it's more than just luck.

Hey, I'll admit, I don't know much about all the guys who the Pens are interviewing, but I do know about Dubas. My point is usually, when a guy gets this much love and fan fare, that he's accomplished a lot in the past. Best example is Ken Holland and that hasn't worked out great at all.

If they hire Dubas, I'll be rooting for him to do well but he's far from any guarantee based on his success in Toronto.

Ahhh as I figured, dumb comment gets a dumb explanation.

I never once mentioned the word luck and I only think they were goalied this season by a guy who is the current Conn Smythe front runner.

Do teams never get goalied in your mind?

I've always been of the opinion that one playoff has nothing to do with other playoffs...only that people like to cling to saying a team hasn't done well in consecutive ones and that's usually the only thing they have for an argument that a team isn't good, or all they use to judge a team.

Different rosters, different matchups, different injuries, etc every year.

He never addressed their goaltending issue. He gave over 11 million to a player they did not need in Tavares.

If it wasn't Dubas' fault that Mathews scored zero goals against Florida then you would have to say it wasn't Hextall's fault that Jarry crapped the bed against NYI and Crosby got a cheap shot in the face against NYR?

- stevens87

As I've said before, signing Tavares was a mistake, but when a hometown talent like Tavares wants to play for you, you find a way to sign him. He should've traded Nylander right after, but I dont begrudge him for signing Tavares.

You can make a good argument Dubas has been taken to the cleaners in key player contracts. Very fair when you look at some of the contracts Matthews, Tavares, etc. signed.

Samsonov and Andersen were solid goalies for Toronto. Not sure you can say he didnt address it.

It wasnt Hextall's fault Jarry sucked against the Islanders. It was Hextall's fault he didnt better address goaltending when it was a major weakness for the best 3 years. That is squarely on him. That isnt comparable to Matthews not scoring in a playoff series.

So you couldn't have provided a worse example. People that pay attention said Holland was bad. Those same people tend to say Dubas is pretty good.

Ken Holland doesn't get love and fan fare from educated fans lol. Jesus Christ.

Also, none of them are a guarantee. But they are all likely an upgrade on Hextall.

Why am I supposed to believe that a guy who accomplished nothing with a young and up coming team in Toronto is going to have success with an aging core in Pittsburgh?

By that logic I guess they shouldn't hire a GM at all.

I'm specifically talking about Dubas. What has he accomplished that would make him such a great hire?

I feel like if you are unable to look at his body of work and make that assessment for yourself, it probably isn't worth the effort to type it out for you. You're a big boy, you should be able to look at the roster ins and outs and see that he made moves to improve his team throughout his tenure.

I am looking at his body of work. Five years, one playoff series win. You're a big boy too and realize all of these "improvements" helped the Leafs win poop!

I admitted before, I don't know a lot about all the other guys they are looking at as GM! But the Leafs playoff failures by teams that he build, doesn't give you any pause?

Edit: At this point, I'd rather them go with an unknown, see how he can do!

Side note, have you made it to Napa valley yet while you've been in CA? The wife and some friends really want to go out there sometime soon and get a resy at French Laundry.
