Kingerski saying Chayka the favorite as of an hour ago?
Made it sound like Dubas is the favorite and everything is based on his decision. |

Seravalli says Dubas’s interest level in Pens isn’t believed to be high. This is taking a bad turn quickly lol. - kfinl170
So who would it leave it down to? Mathieu Darche and Jason Botterill? Not a bad pair of candidates |

As I said a few blogs ago, I think we overestimate the opportunity this job presents. You have to come in and you already have a 2-3 window, max. So you need to hit the group running and you, like a lot of other teams, have a mess to clean up financially.
If Hextall clears out McGinn and Kapanen and doesnt take on Granlund, this job is pretty exciting job with the cap space you have available. Find a good player whose team needs to drop them, be a player in free agency for an impactful player, dump Carter and get even more space.
The good news for this GM is that the bar is so low, that he doesnt have to worry about fans giving him crap for a while since he is automatically a big upgrade over Hextall.
Not hiring Tulsky is tough, he seemed like the odd on favorite.

Friedman added a few thoughts about the Penguins in his 32 Thoughts article (18 thoughts for the playoffs edition)
-Penguins have reached out to Dubas, but are prepared to give him some time. Ottawa could be another contender for Dubas.
-If Toronto hadnt selected Matthew Knies with the 57th pick, had he dropped to Pittsburgh at 58th, they would've taken him
-Adds Assistant Boston GM Evan Gold and Stars Assistant GM Scott White as candidates for the GM job.
So it sounds like if we hear something about the job this week, it wont be Dubas. |

Great stuff!! I am split in my head on Dubas. I could see him taking the President role with us and getting compensated really well, then again. I could see him wanting to take some time off or waiting for the highest bidder. I am just happy that it seems our potential GM candidates are all solid options

Reading this kind of warmed up my cold dead heart a bit this morning, for some reason haha.
I wonder what the roster would of looked like the past few seasons if Sid was heavily consulted on roster decisions.
Perhaps Dubas just wanted to ask Sid straight up that if he becomes GM does Sid mind being traded right away to speed up the rebuild.... |

It’s certainly a pivot from the dubas of last week. And to fly down and meet with Sid “long into the night” (according to DK), definitely seems encouraging.
Whoever’s ideas it was to ‘woo’ a Canadian kid by sending sid to meet him… lol. Love it. Smoke em’ if you’ve got en’ right? |

Seravalli is projecting a $5.5M/year deal for Ryan O'Reilly so if you're wondering whether that Granlund money could've been spent somewhere else... the answer is most definitely yes
I also didnt realize - Pittsburgh has one of the lowest all in tax rates. Only the usual suspects - Tampa, Miami, Dallas, Vegas, and Nashville have lower rates. |

Taylor is getting more and more scoops. She is quickly becoming one of the larger Penguin voices in Pittsburgh. Surprised The Athletic hasnt poached her like they did for Yohe from DK.

I completely agree. It’s a dramatic shift from the last two and I think sid wants someone who will give him a chance at a 4th cup. |

Sid is the only one more powerful than Sullivan. Of course it's fine for a prospective GM to meet the star player. I'm not sure I want Sid involved with personnel decisions in any way. The next GM needs to make some changes. Sid is notorious for hating change. |

Whats this based on? his superstitious game day habits?
Just feel there's been an awful lot of Penguins roster change ups the past 18 years for this to be a thing...regarding players, anyway. Also, Im not so sure he'd want to roll with the roster that didnt get them in for the first time in 16 seasons.

Granlund is an EASY buyout candidate. Saves 4.1 next season and 3.1 the following season. The following two years is 1.8 against the cap. When the new guy gets here, that decision should be made on the first day.
