I wish I could see what Giggy had that one year for the Ducks.

It was probably (frank)ing insane.

- GreatGigInTheSky

When he lost and won the Conn Smythe?

That would have been up there for sure

Yeah, man. That was insane. Allowed 1 goal against in the series against Minnesota. Ridiculous.

I guess Eddy for the Leafs against Ottawa that one year was probably up there, too.

True. But I'd really like to see what Timmins can do over a full season of actually playing.

I think he'd stand as a solid 3rd pair guy that gets PP time.

- GreatGigInTheSky

The trades to make all depend on what the new regime want to do with resigning the core pieces. If Matthews and Nylander get resigned then sure I'd be fine moving Timmins in a deal to take a kick at the can.

If they are hesitant to sign long term deals and they are looking at a re-tool/rebuild then you'd want cost effective, controlled young assets like Timmins.

You have a better memory of Belfour than I do

Giggy was a leaf for a brief period. Probably the "best" last goalie the leafs had.

I'd grab Schenn and Soucy who is UFA if you can, then move Brodie.

Wow we agree twice in like 2 days.

Leafs have the best odds of re-signing Matthews.

- Aaron_85

Leafs have the ONLY odds to re-sign Matthews. Only the team that has him signed, can re-sign him. So, if Matthews is gonna re-sign, it WILL be with the Leafs.

If he goes to the West coast, as I expect....it will just be a FA signing...

People really gotta update their player profile assessment on Nylander. Because you're well off on what kinda player he currently is.
- GreatGigInTheSky

Agreed. I wasn't a huge Willy fan a few years ago. The last 3 playoffs, he's been one of their best performers. His point totals are getting up there in the regular season. You might want to sell high on him, knowing that he's currently at the peak of his career and only has 3 - 4 years of this hockey left in him. He's going to get $9M because that what 40 goal, 80 point players make. If Leafs are going to step back this year, and retool, than this is where they make their signature deal. Matthews will get his money, as will Marner. In 2 year, when Marner's new salary kicks in, Tavares is off the books. Time to get a young talent from a contending team that needs that scoring winger with playoff credentials. Leafs need to not get stupid here.

Maurice+Bob = Berube+Binnington.

Lightning in the bottle. To be fair Florida was ripe for improvement. Barkov et al.... they were talented enough to be very good. Just needed the change and some elite, almost never before seen, goaltending.

- The Law

Florida had a bunch of new players, New coach, New style and were a better team than they played during the regular season. Bob is playing out of his mind.

All of that is irrelevant for me.. It is the playoffs and you need to beat the best teams to win. Leafs failed at that..

Reasons don't matter for me(other than a bunch of injuries)..

What matters to me is that they were not the better team in either series.. Tamps was the better team and lost because of terrible goaltending and I would say they got out played by Florida but it was a more even series with Bob being the biggest difference.

I am not sure a new coach can change the makeup of the players on this team and while I think a trade is optimal we should not just give away a star player for the sake of making a trade.

How much different do Mathews/Marner look with Tom Wilson or Evander Kane(Just throwing names of those types of players) riding shotgun instead of Bunting. Maybe they open the ice up that little bit extra come playoff time

The accusation of being an 'excuses factory' literally just after an entire paragraph of making excuses is what does it for me.
- joel878

Carolina had 59 other minutes to score a goal and didn't. Would a powerplay make much of a difference, the way Bob and the Panthers were playing? They have themselves to blame for no finish.

Treliving made a good trade. Huberdeau regressed and he couldn't get reasonable goaltending. He doesn't play the games and the players were so inconsistent.
- Aaron_85
Ageed. Losing Johnny Gaudreau for nothing didn't help either. Suter really screwed up the team with his old school mind games. Kadri must have thought the he wandered into a minefield when he joined the Flames. Treliving did the best he could with a tire fire, not of his making.

Anchor for me would be a mobile guy. I think you need one to pair with McCabe or Brodie (so could be RH or LH) - just to balance out the pairings. Mobile, but with some size - maybe a UFA like Orlov, Severson, or Graves.

Rielly - Schenn (or a stay at type)
Brodie - Mobile Guy
McCabe - Lilly

I'm also on the RoR bandwagon. I like him at 2C if the $$ is right.

- The Law

You get into the conversation of needle movers and the fit, and I don't know who it is. You need a hockey trade for a team that needs offense and has surplus defense with supplemental offense. Carolina is still someone that comes to mind.

I mean when you look at contracts coming up - Buffalo isn't moving Dahlin, maybe some type of deal with Philly around Provorov is there but they shouldn't be retooling, they should be rebuilding. Detroit's not trading Seider, Ottawa's not trading Chychrun - and we don't want to deal with a division rival anyway - I sincerely don't see it.

That's not his job. It's the exact opposite of what his job is, actually.

But even then, it happened a foot away from him. You should 100% still see that in your peripherals.

Calling the play dead, meeting with the other officials, and still not calling it a penalty is embarrassing, not just for the officials on the ice, but the NHL as a whole.

And it doesn't matter if Ghost "went down easy", he was literally still highsticked.

- GreatGigInTheSky

Cousins was also “literally” high sticked. Forsling took a “literal” elbow to the chin.
Where’s your post calling those out? Enjoy the rest of the games through your one way looking glass, I guess.
Calls get missed, throughout the game, for both teams.

Powerplays were 4 to 1. Even a 2 man advantage because of a chintzy call. We’ve all seen Maurice in action when the shoe is on the other foot.
- shack67

Slash on the back of a hand is going to be called every time it is actually not missed by the ref...especially when it leads to a turnover and a possible chance on goal. Will be called every time, against any team.
Brindamoor (sic) was having a kaniption behind the bench last night. All coaches yap at the refs.

Calls get missed both ways, absolutely. But if you think it's even remotely close to even, you're high off your ass.

Florida has guys that should've been (frank)ing suspended, and crickets from Parros.
