If you thunk a singular trade is the secret sauce to a Stanley Cup I think you are out to lunch.

Yes, you have to pay players that are good.

- Santo_44

its your trade idea not mine, I am only saying I dont think it changes a thing with the leafs.

if you are bothering to trade Marner, it has to be something that you think...helps get them over whatover playoff hump you see is in the way (lots of people say toughness...stuff like that)

also there are people that would say...1 trade for Florida has been a decent secret sauce for them.

im not saying that..but some might..

Ghost at the end.....puck was moved and ref was turning his head to follow the puck up the ice. He didn’t see it, plain and simple, he didn’t see it. He was following the puck as he should’ve been. He missed the stick up high, and he also missed the Emmy award winning performance by ghost. And then, when ghost slides into the ref’s legs (like he may have been dead), the ref blows the play down, as the puck is traveling on its way into the empty net.
They missed calls both ways last night, as they always do. Amazing how some choose to only acknowledge one side of it. Cousins got toe of a blade jabbed into his yap, bleeding even, but no call. Forsling got an elbow right in the face, no call... they miss/let things go nightly, for both teams. One would think those from the Mecca would know how playoff hockey goes, eh? Like a freaking Excuses factory.

That's not his job. It's the exact opposite of what his job is, actually.

But even then, it happened a foot away from him. You should 100% still see that in your peripherals.

Calling the play dead, meeting with the other officials, and still not calling it a penalty is embarrassing, not just for the officials on the ice, but the NHL as a whole.

And it doesn't matter if Ghost "went down easy", he was literally still highsticked.

Look, despite being the mecca of hockey and the center of the hockey universe, it's not like there's a ton of experience watching playoff hockey right?

Powerplays were 4 to 1. Even a 2 man advantage because of a chintzy call. We’ve all seen Maurice in action when the shoe is on the other foot.

Just my opinion. Leafs are all around this ...they're close'ish. They need to increase the 'playoff style' performers ..guys who can play through the hooking/holding and lean more towards 10' goals rather than 30' goals.

I'm not suggesting anybody needs to be traded (they probably do to make cap space) but lets find the guy(s) that can help in the playoffs and pay the price if it's reasonable.

I don't think you dangle 88 or 16 and say "who's buying!". I think you find what you need and go get it.

I'd actually target an anchor on the blue line. Our guys are pretty good but age is creeping in.

If they did not have Bobrovsky(a guy that teams wouldn't have added for free 2 months ago) Tkachuk is golfing after the 1st round.

It was not the secret sauce. It was a good trade that helped move the team forward.

I just do not agree one bit that one trade is going to make this team a cup winner.

What it does is gives us a top of the league player who plays C and moves JT to the wing.

It allows you to go get some players to surround the top guys that you believe can elevate the teams game in the playoffs.

The accusation of being an 'excuses factory' literally just after an entire paragraph of making excuses is what does it for me.

Agreed.

The anchor guys are likely not available though.

The new GM might want better mobility and scoring from the backend though.

Maurice+Bob = Berube+Binnington.

Lightning in the bottle. To be fair Florida was ripe for improvement. Barkov et al.... they were talented enough to be very good. Just needed the change and some elite, almost never before seen, goaltending.

The change worked, they also took advantage of a team where 2 top guys wanted to leave.

Ironically Carolina was one of those teams that tried but couldn't get a deal done.

I also think CGY made a good trade, they were against the wall.

Lets also not forget Florida was very close to not even being here...Pittsburgh lost to Mrazek and Chicago in the final week.

As of like game 1 or 2 in ECF someone on the radio had said Bob has historic numbers for some analytics. Like goals against expected or some other poop with a similar name. He's literally the best since it's been tracked almost 20 years ago.

It's fine. He's a 2 x vezina winner. He seems to have finally put out that performance when it matters. Good for him and the Panthers.

Anchor for me would be a mobile guy. I think you need one to pair with McCabe or Brodie (so could be RH or LH) - just to balance out the pairings. Mobile, but with some size - maybe a UFA like Orlov, Severson, or Graves.

Rielly - Schenn (or a stay at type)
Brodie - Mobile Guy
McCabe - Lilly

I'm also on the RoR bandwagon. I like him at 2C if the $$ is right.

Treliving made a good trade. Huberdeau regressed and he couldn't get reasonable goaltending. He doesn't play the games and the players were so inconsistent.

ROR will get overpaid by a team desperate for a 2C I think.

I like the idea of adding a good puck mover.

Huberdeau has to be better.

If both those players are who they are they end up alright in that trade.

Leafs got 6 D signed already and I very much hope they bring Schenn back. But that doesn't leave much room for others to come in. Unless Gio decides to retire.

That way, Schenn cam be used how how Holl should have been used; as the #7 that comes in when other guys need a break.

And I agree on ROR. Would very much love for him to be back. And Acciarri.

Timmins and Brodie are not untouchable either, they could both be involved in trades.

True. But I'd really like to see what Timmins can do over a full season of actually playing.

I think he'd stand as a solid 3rd pair guy that gets PP time.
