The Canes have scored a lot of timely goals in the first two rounds to get deep... now they've just run into a brick wall. Has happened to many good teams in the past and part of why the playoffs are so unpredictable.

.978 SV% is just sick. Goaltending can be totally OP.

Canes have been getting very good goaltending also. Florida is just a team of destiny this season.

What major injuries has Florida had to this point? Carolina has had major injuries to 3 top forwards.

Won the game without barkov last night, did they not?

He played a little bit but he played the first two games. It's not an excuse to say that in 3 games decided by one goal, two of them in OT. That the Canes having injuries to major top offensive players is a potential factor for them. They aren't a real high powered offensive team to begin with.

well then why let him interview with the pens then? yes it is common courtesy, however They could have easily said no and told boy wonder he will be the GM when the season is over.

Or maybe they let him go and promote someone from Tulksy team to take over his role.

Courtesy. It's not a good look to restrict career advancement of your front office people unless you have good reason.

Like Calgary refusing to allow Treliving to interview w/ the Pens because they are ahead of them in the upcoming draft and they don't want him divulging their internal rankings. But then they're cool w/ Toronto talking with him because they are picking after them.

That's very surprising to me that he has already interviewed.

It's going to suck for the Flyers if he get's the job but the Pens are still pretty far away from having the synergy that Rod and the Canes front office have.

That still makes the Flyers playing catch up with Torts at best until his contract is done. I still have major doubts to not only the Flyers front office's dedication to analytics but their ability to be on the leading edge of it.

The Flyers should've been looking for the guys who can be the Detroit Redwings FO of the late 80s/early 90s where they were drafting eastern Europeans and Russians aggressively before everyone else which set them up for the next decade.

The Flyers need an edge in their FO.

Until proven otherwise the Flyers got the equivalent of a camera friendly commercial.

"Hi, I am not a real doctor but I play one on TV but if i were a real doctor i would recommend ...." says the guy with the big smile.

I have no doubt they can sell the Flyers on TV in the short term (which i think was a critical aspect of their hires) as far as actual progress, we'll see.

Unfortunately, I have to agree. If I was Tulsky, I wouldn't want the Pittsburgh job. That's not a good situation there.

Yes thought with the draft coming up that is a valid point and wouldn't blame a team for not allowing it. that at least makes sense.

dont see Sullivan as one who embraces the analytics end.

Here is some food for thought. When Torts contracts expires and he moves to the front office, will he hire his former protégé Sullivan when his deal is done in a few years as well.

I want to see how a Tulsky does when he is the one 100% in charge. Easier to sit back in the role he is in, things change when your the one responsible for pulling the trigger.

I would have to add Tkachuk to that this year also.

Paccioretty was never really with the team, that was a dumb signing and thing to bank on as I mentioned before

I disagree. That was a really smart move. Can't predict injuries.

Funniest thing is the absolute carnage they're leaving in their wake.

Boston's basically drowning in shame. The whole city of Toronto is melting down and the org is in a shambles. If Tulsky leaves Carolina after this series... wow.

After last night I think Bob has taken the lead.
- MBFlyerfan

You might be right. I think it’s gonna be a tight race between Bob and Tkachuk but it’s not about the goals Tkachuk is scoring, it’s the timing of the goals he’s scoring. I was saying about Matthews in the last round. He has the points but he doesn’t have very many dynamic moments in the playoffs.

Jonesy was desperate to come up with reasons why that obvious high sticking penalty wasn't a penalty. It's bad enough this dopey dinosaur is the Flyers President, but does he have to be getting a second paycheck making an ass of himself on national TV as well?

We disagree. Now has nothing to do with then. There is such a thing as context. Bob being terrific right now does not make you right about games 3 and 4 of the Boston series. He was rusty. That series could have went the other way very easily, but the Panthers out scored them. As I said then, the goalie changed made sense, but did not heavily affect the outcome.

This series is different and Bob has been lights out. Against such a defensive team like Carolina, they aren’t going to score as many goals (and haven’t). The Canes goalies are playing very well too. Anderson had a .948 SV% and 1.22 GAA. Bob has been otherworldly in this series, and he was very good against Toronto too.

- NC Flyers Fan

You don’t make the switch in the playoffs unless you absolutely have to and Florida had to against Boston, which is all the context I need.

I forget who said the success of analytics for the Flyers will rest solely on Briere pushing it? Was it Bill?

If this were a national trending story, I think he’d be making an ass of himself but since nobody cares, he’s really not.

Yeah but if he plays well enough you can unload him at the deadline for more draft capital if you don't think he is part of the long term plan.
- J35Bacher

True, and I think Roslovic is the type of player the Flyers should be looking to acquire. One year left, skilled guy that could use a change of scenery. Either he plays well or they unload him at the deadline as you said. I just don't think he would be involved in any deal with Torts around. He was the Hayes of Columbus when Torts was there.

Every team has injuries, not an excuse . Totally agree on the scoring. Carolina goalies numbers are incredible too
- ClaudeFather

Agree on the excuse, was not brining it up to excuse, was referring to the off-season and how they look at the roster, some teams would get impatient and think they hit their lid, I think the Canes should stay the course, unless something blows their socks off.

Just listened to his interview on BSH, you were right in that he is pushing hard that defense should be prioritized. Come on down, Reinbacher or Sandin-Pelikka.
