That’s such a layman’s pov.

Kadri didn’t hurt them, the refs did, and Dubas did by leaving it up to Naz to protect Mitch.

The Leafs gotta get tougher, a lot tougher. The most embarrassing thing Leafs fan do is female dog and cry every time something dirty happens to them. Complain about the officiating. “Refs are not fair, wah-wah.” They have to accept that you can’t win by being the nice guy. You can’t be full of players who’re scared of contact, or getting into the occasional fight. They won’t win anything until they address is problem.

- Arctic_AARDVARK

Kadri got huge suspensions for stuff that is not worse than what goes on nearly every game in the playoffs.

Seriously you're not gonna bet the Bills are you? Favourite, 2 really good teams in the division. 1st place schedule?

NY has the Jests as team 2.......realistic.

But if Tua remains healthy I think the Fins are 1st. I think the Jets are 3rd.

Let me know how you make a single mistake after being given a promotion and tell me what you think of your boss. I doubt you'd be like "oh okay. I messed up. Good for you guys making the right call here." Let me know how you'd like your boss airing out your dirty laundry with them over any communication. I doubt you'd think it was professional or have good things to say about it.

I mean I don't think you air out the entire dirty laundry of everything either that Shanahan did.

I think it's a mess that didn't need to be a mess and easily is due to both sides. Shanahan could have simply fired him Tuesday and noone would really say anything. I figured Dubas was likely done in Toronto this time last week as it is. Just laughable how this all happened.

- Aaron_85

What about the stories that Dubas held and executive meeting on Wednesday (whatever that is) and was discussing how to move forward without so much input from Shanahan. Apparently after Shanahan went to bat for him with MLSE and got him a decent contract. I think I would not re-sign someone for doing that.

Might as well relax.....I'm pretty sure that we're a couple of weeks out for seeing a new GM. I'm also sure that there are player consultations and trade talks happening behind the scene. Let's just enjoy what's left of the playoffs and then start the conversation again later.

Florida is lights out right now! Bob is killing it and Carolina has as many answers as the Leafs and Bruins. They've yet to score more than 2 goals against Florida either. You have to admire their play, tough, relentless and passionate. The Florida fans don't deserve a team like this, since they don't really support the team at the box office. Looking at the West, I don't see either of those teams having a prayer against the Panthers, if they stay healthy.

Leafs have 3 players earning top 10 NHL money. Note: no player making top 10 money made it through to the semi finals. Eichel is highest paid of players still playing (he ranks 13th on the top paid list).

Young, improving teams (Carolina, New Jersey, Buffalo, Ottawa) are locking their young talent into long term deals (in the range $8m x 8). On the other hand, I think it is fair to say last year's winner (Colorado) paid a steep price this year for having to let go some of their better depth players.

The semi final teams appear to have more depth. It can make a huge difference if you have an extra $10m cap space available. It allows to add an average of $1.5m salary on the contract for each of your bottom 6 skaters.

Throwing it at someone in the playoffs after a player has been suspended is different. Especially when they're different players.

He's an offensive 2C any day of the week, it also keeps him more engaged. Lose him if you want, but to me he was the most valuable player after Ekblad and Draisaitl in his draft.

Nylander at 2C just reaffirms this team's softness.

Exactly. After this all happened I have more respect for Shanny and very little for Dubas. What Dubas done was disrespectful.

Dubas was too interested in the job. Dubas wasn’t interested enough in the job. Dubas wanted too much money. All we’ve heard is from Shanny’s perspective and it all is set out to make Dubas look bad or to base the decision to fire him on his actions over the last week rather than what Dubas and Shanny both failed to accomplish running the team.

Shannahan and Dubas worked together for 9 years in a complex relationship involving the board, executives, coaches and players. I don’t believe at all that Shanny changed his mind about keeping Dubas because of a press conference or a staff meeting.

It does kind of feel like Shanahan's ego was bruised somehow.

Already raising the narrative that Matthews is considering not agreeing to signing before July 1. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Even your best talent can't dictate who you have as GM though. But I also understand that Matthews would like to know the direction of the club before extending right?

Seems weird to change GM's at this juncture though. Although lack of playoff success certainly warrants a look at it.

I'm hoping they do land an experienced GM with the cojones to make hard decisions.

Who'd you like to see as coach? My choice is Laviolette

Would s/he not be a Shanahan puppet??
Dubas wanted more autonomy to make moves and there are reports coming out that Shananham blocked and force trades that Dubas didn't want to make.

ps -there is a bold statement at the beginning of the user post that we quoted but doesn't have the end bold statement at the end of his post

It's he said she said at this point. Divorces are ugly. Dubas is gone and that's the reality. Why or blame should be a media thing with no relevance to moving forward. There is no such thing as full autonomy for a sports franchise GM unless you own the team. In about 5 weeks its the draft, Leafs have only a late first, a fourth and fifth pick in the draft. Leafs do not have many trade chips and they have a long list of pending UFA's.

I agree with you. It still feels just "off". Also it's convenient that Shanny had last word.

Really interested in what these moves are over the years Shanahan apparently blocked.

Too bad we will never get that scoop.

One I read predates when we played the Habs in the playoffs:

Justin Holl + a 2nd for Cole Caufield.

Shanahan turned it down due to size issues.

This should be very concerning to everyone. Shanahan thought it was a good idea to hire Babcock before he had a GM and pay him obscene amounts of money that he's still making today. Hes the one who decided to go with Hunter and Dubas.

He's been at the route of every bad decision made, his arm up any GMs ass is not good for the team or anyone.

Some info trickling out
Maybe some meddling from above Shanny.
Not that they can't do what they want.. But that doesn't work out very often.

Going to be a poop show summer. At the worst possible time. Team needs stability not a poop show. So many important decisions coming.

There's a big difference between a GM who needs a stamp of approval and a GM who's micromanaged. Not every GM in the league has a number of their moves outright closed down.
