Shanny caused this turmoil. - shack67
Really interested in what these moves are over the years Shanahan apparently blocked.
Too bad we will never get that scoop. |

Or the ones he forced. I personally think Foligno was a Shanahan pushed deal.
Over time some of them will come out.

so much truth - Dozzer
Odd take. He is paying Babcock who won a cup to not coach for the team more than hes being paid.
As I said before, it was sort of glossed over how Dubas said on Thursday he wanted to be a leaf in an email. Usually in negotiations if someone does that after a counter offer they usually are willing to come down off it.
Am I surprised Dubas isn't a leaf? Not at all. It made sense from a general point of view with playoff success. Am I surprised how this whole thing happened? Yeah. Its just weird. Tell me another instance of an organization airing this poop or saying "well you had a bad press conference so that 5 year deal? Gone" any other organization you'd be laughing at how bad it looks. |

If nothing was said at the press conference he's likely re-signed as of now.
The board is ready to extend Kyle, he's basically been told to not talk about his extension. He comes out and says he's not sure if he even wants to return.
They part ways. There are certain things in business you keep in house, that is one of them.

Why would there be so much chaos when there is need for so many really significant decisions to be made over the next 6 weeks? Is somebody trying to undermine the important choices that need to be made? |

Let me know how you make a single mistake after being given a promotion and tell me what you think of your boss. I doubt you'd be like "oh okay. I messed up. Good for you guys making the right call here." Let me know how you'd like your boss airing out your dirty laundry with them over any communication. I doubt you'd think it was professional or have good things to say about it.
I mean I don't think you air out the entire dirty laundry of everything either that Shanahan did.
I think it's a mess that didn't need to be a mess and easily is due to both sides. Shanahan could have simply fired him Tuesday and noone would really say anything. I figured Dubas was likely done in Toronto this time last week as it is. Just laughable how this all happened. |

poop like this has already happened in my life. Do you think his boss comes to this conclusion on his own? I guarantee his phone blew up after Dubas's press conference. He said it was his decision, which I believe is partially true.
Do you think Shanny went to bat for Dubas with the board? I'd say likely given the extensions were talked about in March. It doesn't really matter.
Shanny took heat for Kyle's posturing, that's pretty much a given. OPTICS!! Neither is blameless. For sure the heat is up on Shanahan though, thanks to the way that went down.

I was originally with the Shanaplan.
Then I thought he allowed Dubas to make the team too soft, so was against it.
Now I’m back on board. He’s convinced me that he see the things closer to how I do. Shanny (frank)ed up big time with Dubas. A wasted last three years. Should’nt have let him trade Kadri, all downhill from there. But he’s starting to right the ship. Fresh eyes and a new philosophy is what the Leafs need.

The Tavares signing was always the biggest misstep for me. I don't consider it a wasted 3 years, in fact you may regret Dubas leaving.
I just don't believe he contributed more to the ongoing success of the team more than organic growth did amongst the young 3. Without bringing in JT he could have better cost controlled his young stars. It cost valuable resources that would be handy to have right about now, not to mention the past couple of years.
It's hard to argue against a successful GM, but IMO the worst of Tavares years are coming. |

Leafs don’t have a viable 2C, and JT should be moved to wing. It’s going to suck, but maybe he can pull his weight with the right C.
I won’t miss Dubas, at all.

We all know it was Kadri last strike with the Leafs when he got suspended again in the playoffs.
Hey I like Kadri but something had to give with him as he was hurting the team with his multiple playoffs suspensions.
Let's see who the new GM will be and if he cleans house. |

Nylander can play 2C, given Ozone starts.
You need a strong 3C though. |

That’s such a layman’s pov.
Kadri didn’t hurt them, the refs did, and Dubas did by leaving it up to Naz to protect Mitch.
The Leafs gotta get tougher, a lot tougher. The most embarrassing thing Leafs fan do is female dog and cry every time something dirty happens to them. Complain about the officiating. “Refs are not fair, wah-wah.” They have to accept that you can’t win by being the nice guy. You can’t be full of players who’re scared of contact, or getting into the occasional fight. They won’t win anything until they address is problem. |

Throwing it at someone in the playoffs after a player has been suspended is different. Especially when they're different players.
He's an offensive 2C any day of the week, it also keeps him more engaged. Lose him if you want, but to me he was the most valuable player after Ekblad and Draisaitl in his draft.

With any other organization, I would be saying the same thing as this one. There is more to this than a couple offers and a press conference. |

This was expected. The problem was that the past few years were supposed to be successful. The cap was supposed to be significantly higher by now. His final years he would be a productive vet on a team with a successful young core. |
