imo they'll be close the year after, but probably not close enough.
its not a question of being optimistic or pessimistic, kids need to mature. it takes time. Habs had 4-5 rookies on d last year, they won't turn into hallofamers over the summer.

of course, that's not what I'm saying at all either. but there's a lot of talent on that roster, and perceptions have been skewed because of all the injuries. we'll see, but I prefer thinking we'll be pleasantly surprised sooner rather than later.
