This would be interesting, imagine adding those 3 for the next round. Doubt it but what a thought.

The return for prospects even if they hit their ceilings will stagnate as GM’s wanting to trade for them realize how they will never play in Buffalo anyway. It’s a double edge sword and Adams window to fix the situation is limited.

At some point this becomes true.
But, can you show me instances where Tampa had to sell assets for very significant discount as a result of them being blocked?
That said, Brisbous has paid significant cost because they were/are SC contenders and willing to pay high prices to "get their man". It worked for a but and fell short in other cases.

It is not bad having prospects play in the A until they're 22/23 and frothing at the mouth to play up.

It is all good. Doomsday is far far off.

It’s not about doom, this notion that Adams is a top 5 GM because he drafted a surplus of the same type of player is laughable.

How many Rosens would you trade for a Ryan Lomberg, Mason Marchment type?

Adams has significant work ahead of him to balance the organization, I hope he can do it but he has yet to show any “top 5” qualities in that department for me to jump on the wagon.

Look at the great Dubas who built a highly competitive regular season team of individuals - they need to rebuild this time and infuse grit.

Tampa just and has for years sold the farm for those type of players.

It’s required in the playoffs, I hope as fans we don’t have to watch Adams learn that the slow and hard way.

Side note just read the blog. WTF?

To Mr. Mehoff in the first twenty comments of my initial thread, I would own you and make your gut come out with laughter. I have a million of them and have lived in a hockey locker room for most of my life. My boys don’t need the internet to bring more funny names to the table. My friend Wyatt Burns was not impressed... I will talk about Mr. Quinn because he is relevant to the future. Team Canada is lucky to have him. I bet you have had a few stinky gloves to the face, but I do understand that they are earned. Kind of a badge of honor. I know the cut of your jib. No matter how big you are that was weak.

They needed their top players to show up. They had grit.

Not one of their top players showed up against Florida.

They didn’t show up because Marner and Mathews play soft. Tavares is too slow. It’s a softly built team that acquired grit at the TDL. That’s different than building around the culture of playing tough.

They invested too much of the cap in soft talent, would you take any 4 of the laffs core over Katchuk?

My buddies and I have had this convo multiple times.

Eventually a decent prospect that is doing well …. Will have to be traded for a top 4 d or something along those lines

It’s inevitable. It’s a number game.

The Sabres roster already has this log jam at forward. Savoie, Kulich, Rosen, and rousek will be battling for spots

Olofsson is the obviously odd man out. Then who else?

What brings more value back:

- A 14OA draft pick
- A good young AHL forward

Saying they don't have grit though is just false.

That team had some pop. Top end talent didn't show up when it mattered is what it came down to.

And players like Katchuk are far and few between these days. Him, Brady Rantanen are like the only players cut from that cloth.

Grit is the most hilarious term used here on this message board.

We don’t need true grit players. Come playoff time, we will see the players that change their games to add “grit”

It’s playoff hockey for a reason

I have to agree with you, you either have it or you don't.

Saying Rosen doesn't have it, probably just false. Kid goes to the dirty areas to score. Wont be laying the boom but doesn't have to if hes getting dirty.

Touché with Reilly

Katchuk isn’t the only one on the team that plays that way. Zito reset the entire team after a president’s trophy season.

While Others have said he's a Top 5 GM, don't confuse me as being a part if it. I like what he has done so far, but that is elite status and he currently isn't there (yet?)

If Rosen Keeps it up, the quest will be how many slugs will it take for 1 Rosen. That is the point. Let 'em continue to bake and increase in value.
Your example with Tampa though is straight in line with my point about considering these guys as purely assets..some are exchanged for others.
Did BrisBois over pay for 2 Cups if that was the Organizations Objective?
No, no he did not.

I think what is being said is despite the Leafs going out and adding some gritty players. They raised their overall team toughness, but Their core players still have none (or, not enough?) and were held to the outside for the most part.
Example I’ve seen cited by unhappy Leafers is, They would settle for a shot from distance instead of trying to get to the slot, or the front of the net. Idk, perhaps?

Mitts maybe,
Girgensons, Okposso for sure, Jost, Krebs likely unless they pick up their game.
poop, they may trade Peterka in a year or two.

The possibilities are endless, including trades of prospects as well...which is exactly my point.

Has to be built into the foundation of the team, not just a few guys sprinkled in.

That is not the case though when you have a very young team who is developing and those few tough guys can help influence the youth to infuse those qualities into their game.
