Is the summary of the above that you're sharing with us that you're still whining about them years later, and you were lazy?

When you’re 16-18 years old. Yeah it’s a pain

My point is. It’s much easier to learn how to shoot vs becoming a better skater.

Sure, if you're lazy and don't have the proper level of drive and desire to be the best you can be.

I was always told my shot alone would have gotten me on any team. That the skating could be worked on but a guy’s shot is pretty much set in stone - you either have one or you don’t- otherwise everyone would score 50 goals.

But please tell me about how all these phenom skaters are 4th line grinders, as if they never work on their shot lol

No surprise here. Hopefully get a chance to talk to him tomorrow
- TheSabresTaco

Tell him he got about $24m already from the Sabres when his play should have paid a value of $10-12m. Now, he is standing in the way of prospects.
He is an old, slow player playing on a young and fast team...a real misfit.

Apparently a GREAT guy, but selfish.
Dumb (frank)ing move.

Here's my thing: you have Kulich, Savoie and Rosen who should all get top-6 looks within a year. You've got Mittelstadt, Krebs and Greenway looking like they'll get primary looks for the 3rd line.

I dont need these prospects playing with Captain Larry (all due respect) so what are we doing here

- Hank Balling

Right but I would rather trade one or two of Kulich or Rosen before Peterka or Quinn

By starting their offseason with signing an old, slow 4th line grinder to $2.5m?
Fvck, what's next...maybe go sign Perry for $4.5m ?! Lol.

Good lord, it is just a wtf move.

I don't blame him at all. If I can find someone to pay me $2.5 million per year to be a career underachiever, I'm signing in a heartbeat. The real issue is that the Buffalo Sabres still aren't making winning their #1 priority.

Continuing the theme of likening this team of the Bills, the Sabres have moved from the Richard Jauron era to the Chan Gailey era.

Think this is kinda harsh. He's an above average 4th liner. And I dont think this move, if they had decided to let him walk, would be some indication of them doing otherwise.

Every team, even the ones in the final 4, has a few of these guys. The NHL isn't a meritocracy, every team's got "we like his vibes" players.

It was more a comment about the young talent we have coming through the ranks.

But to the point on Okposo, he is a fine 4th line player at this point. I mean the Panthers have the ghost of Eric Staal and Zac freaking Dalpe on the fourth line and they are doing ok.

It's far more than "we like the vibes". They value him, and "what he brings", and they haven't been shy about it since day 1. The problem is "what he brings" has never translated to anything that remotely resembles meaningful success in this league. This is not the fault of Kyle Okposo. It's the fault of an organization that equates the type of player he is to winning when we have far more than a decade's worth of a body of work that shows it's the exact opposite.

Before his injuries and hospitalization he was a top six forward. And then he turned himself into a decent 4th liner. Like even last year, frustrating as he was, his impacts were better than almost anyone available in FA this year. They didnt bring back Cody Eakin.

He was a top 6 forward on one of the worst teams in the league, a team that has been terrible at talent evaluation for well over a decade now.

Didnt he make the playoffs 3 times with them? This is like lamenting the leafs for adding tavares in FA because he didnt win on a bad team. or FLA for Reinhart, or Eichel in VGK.

He's not going to be responsible for the winning or losing, hes not going to get nearly a big enough role. In all likelihood at his his age, probably wont even play more than 60% of the games.

On the ice, they could use a Dalpe or Lomberg more than an Okposo.

That's what makes these kind of moves deflating: they don't even pretend to look for better options.

Under Chan Gailey (and Ryan Fitzpatrick), the Bills were a team that would throw the ball all over the yard, and were fun to watch most weeks, but were still never anywhere near good enough to compete in meaningful games. That's exactly what the Sabres are right now.

Oh come on now. If the Sabres let okposo walk and their first FA move was announcing they've brought back dalpe everyone would be saying the same thing about them not being serious about winning.
