Now you're making me look up UPL splits.

Feb: 2-3-0 .858 5.03
Mar: 1-3-2 .879 3.88

If he played better down the stretch, I'd probably view it differently.

Did win his last two though when they absolutely needed it.

Just saw Yankees up 1 nothing and thought Judge probably hit another homer and he did! Holy S. Homer binge.

He never played better …… he was also bad all year long.

He won games with the team scoring 5-7 goals a goals and on fire

Upl was essentially a rookie last season.

He should get better on paper right?
With age and some experience?

Our defense and system may have lead to his statistical flaws.

Sometimes winning is winning. Sometimes it doesn't matter either.

- Boss34

He has elite size. I don't think he's actually skilled at the position. Can he get better? Of course. I absolutely would upgrade him though and I think that's why a trade makes sense now. He has upside and the Sabres need a proven commodity to pair with Levi.

Levi is the future and they need someone provably good to pair with him now rather than a developmental project in UPL who no longer has waiver exemption

There's people who aren't excited about trading a bevy of picks and prospects for 1 (one) year of a top 5 Goalie.
What about year 2, 3, 4...
Don't come at me with some projection of greatness from a prospect.
You eliminated that point from discussion.

- IonSabres

I’m talking about the people (and they exist) who don’t want anyone to threaten the throne currently held by Levi.

If Levi struggles it’s “Ah oh well he was a rookie he will improve next year”

I’m tired of kicking the can. No spot on this roster needs to be reserved for anyone in the pipeline. It should be all hands on deck from here on out

He'll hold his own. It's the other spot that's currently a smoldering tire fire

You need a Plan B, if he needs some time in Roch. Don't think you can risk your entire season on him being ready and being able to handle the load.

Sorry Hank. change that to he should hold his own. Too early to say but he may just be another pair of jeans with too many holes and slowly disappear into a closet

I think he has a good chance at being solid in an extended backup role.

30-ish games

I think you’d (not you) be fooling yourself to think he’d step in not have some bumps along the way

Kid's got moxie and plenty of confidence in his considerable abilities. I just want to see them add a real goalie to pair with him.

UPL ain't it imo

I agree about Hellebuyck, but fine with 6K backing up Levi. Actually hoping for it and they can spend money elsewhere. Levi seems pretty confident. His mentor can be Anderson in some form or fashion. 6K can make big saves at big times in big games. That’s good enough for me. Sabres score more in front of him too.

You better get Irbe back here if it’s Levi/Upl/Comrie next year…

Looks like Tarzan, plays like Jane. He plays small in net and his tracking seems slow…. I’m sure he can be coached up, but not with Levi as the 1a. Too many questions in net at that point, which we’ve had since Miller…

An extension would have to be in place to make that trade.

At the term and AAV that he will be commanding will it be worth it ?

I don't know, they only have $387B in cap space might be a tight squeeze

Cap space being spent is the least of my worries.

Dahlin, Power, Quinn and maybe even Mitts at this point are all about to get $$$$$

They still have $20M in space for next year with adding ~$12M in Thompson and Cozens' deals. And with the covid escrow likely being paid off this year, haven't heard anything yet; the cap is going up $4M, if not, $1M and then "significantly" for 24-25 when they'll need their deals. There will be plenty of money to go around so long as they don't spend any of it on Gargelsons or Okposo

I agree, actually think Murray would look nice on Mitts and Savoie's line. Give them a heavy forechecker and then he can plant his A$$ in front. Plus he would help protect the kid.
- Buff36

The description above is exactly why Granato pounded the table for Greenway.

He's getting the chance there long before Murray.

That said, agreed with giving Murray a shot on the 4th line.

If they're going the route of fresh blood on the 4th line in Murray and Rousek, they should go big game hunting on defense and at forward (one of each).

With their pipeline of forwards, they could incorporate the cost of one big addition at each of the above and have little cap issues going forward.

Good Post!! Agreed on Greenway. And I don't think Murray will ever get that shot with Buffalo, but not because of his skating like a few have stated, but because of the Forward depth they have.

Interesting list for St. Louis, not the first list I have seen Rasmus Andersson name included. If Calgary is thinking of moving him, Adams should be 1st in line.

- Buff36

If Calgary is somehow stupid enough to move Andersson, Adams better be on speed dial. Agreed.

That said, I don't see that happening.

He's a high quality, young RHD, which is like a solid gold commodity in the NHL, and Calgary has him signed for all of his prime at a modest cap hit of $4.5M.

Really tempting to hit the accelerate button. Hellebuyck is what you hope Levi can become. It might take 5 years and it might never happen.

What I don't get is why they'd pair well. If you go get Hellebuyck, you want him to start 65 games next year.

- Lunaion

I think overusing Hellebuyck is a temptation that would need to be resisted.

I don't agree with your wanting him to start 65 games statement.

55 games as Hank said, is the sweet spot.

Keeps Hellebuyck, at 30, fresh for the playoff drive, and playoffs, if that somehow happened.

Zero wrong with easing Levi in to his first full NHL season to the tune of 25-30 games.

He's on every list because he's good at a high demand position 😂

I doubt it has much if anything to do with actually being available.
