That would be pretty (frank)ed up considering he had to stop playing growing up due to concussions.

Just saying, I bet Dubas got beaten up by the hockey players every day in high school.
- jmatchett383

Why would he? He was probably friends with them. He played until he was 14.

My ideal front office of who’s available;

GM- Eric Tulsky- young, fresh thinking, comes from a successful franchise as fair as drafting/assets management.. analytic based thinking…

President Hockey Ops- Ray Shero- yep- I wanna run it back to Ray Ray. Think about what people praise The Pens about- “first class franchise”, “Great facilities”, “Winning culture”, etc etc… I remember when Ray was first hired reading interviews from him- his top priority was modernizing the franchise, upgrading facilities, taking care of all employees and family’s- he did all of those things and all those areas the Pens are still widely regarded at the top tier of teams in regards to those areas. Have Ray come in to run the organization as a continued top tier destination, and allow Tulsky to use his forward thinking to assemble a new aged roster- while still having Ray’s “old school” input with “intangibles” and “chemistry”.

Probably because Dubas understands expected goals and it keeps clown shoes up at night even though I’ve schooled him on the subject numerous times.

The reason Chiarelli is so bad is because he’s completely stuck in the league he won that cup in over a decade ago. His work in present era speaks for itself. Hextall’s not on that level, he’s mediocre to bad but he’s not the worst GM in the league bad like Chia. Hex’s mediocrity had a disproportionately bad effect on our team due to the age of our stars and truncated window. If Sid, Geno, and Letang were still in their late 20s, nothing Hex has done or didn’t do couldn’t have been course corrected in time. Chiarelli dismantles teams trading away good players for bad players. Hex never subtracted from our team the same way Chiarelli does to his. He just never added enough and managed the outyear cap poorly.
- Victoro311

I know Chia sucks, but I'd argue that Hex wasn't even close to being mediocre. He threw away McCaan for nothing. He dumped Marino for the remains of Petry. If rumors were true, he was trying like hell to move Petts and Zucker. Maybe he was only getting started at dumping good players for garbage.

Then there's Grandlund.... If he's not bought out, the Pens are basically going to trade a good player for him because of the cap hit.

Carter, Kap (thanks blues) and the tending situation.... That's a whole lot of damage in two years.

Trust me you don’t want an emotionally and mentally immature manchild running hockey ops or in the GM seat for your team.
Can’t say I’ve ever seen someone whining about their family, as well, saying it’s either the Leafs or therapy. Wild, wild takes.
I think Shanahan figured out he’s a man child and that’s why he stopped showing up to watch the games. Didn’t want his name associated with whatever dramatic demise Dubas was going to pull off.

"I knew the Pens should not hire Dubas before that press conference. After watching Dubas invoke his family 9 times during that interview in an effort to purposely avoid tough questions, I am 100% convinced neither the Pens nor any franchise above midget should hire that clown. Most overrated and immature gm in all of sports."

I completely agree.
Analytics darling who doesn't recognize defense as an important part of a team.

I would have thought Dave Poulin might have been approached for GM by more clubs.

Leafs were one of the top defensive teams in the league this season. Far better than the Isles or Penguins. Stats are all there if you care to go look for yourself.

hahah yeah and not just defensemen, he's added quite a few good two way forwards as well. Their overall team D was solid this past season.

The fact many Leaf fans cant see why playing/coaching/managing in Toronto could take a toll on a person's mental health and family life is a reason why the Leafs cannot get over the hump.

I have to say I disagree with you. I've got no problem with a GM showing some emotion during the games. He's invested. Why wouldn't you want to play for someone like that? I also don't get the "whining about family" comment. Family should be first on any person's priorities.. no?

I think Dubas would be great in a smaller market like Pittsburgh. Toronto is a beast. Anyone that can survive the pressure that comes with that gig is a top quality candidate IMO, especially when you're in your 30s.

I have no problem with reactions and passion from front office guys. In hockey we are conditioned to think everyone should be a robot. You see it in interviews all the time and it is so boring. Having a GM who is passionate about winning is good with me.

haha yeah, I think people stick to old narratives....like 5 or 6 seasons ago, when Andersen was in their net, the Leafs would give up the most, or close to the most, shots against a game/season.

Someone said in the last blog that Dubas didnt care about defense and that flew in the face of what some of my friends and family, who are very knowledgeable not only Leafs but also hockey in general fans, have been telling me about how Dubas' trades and signings the past few years have really made them a lot better defensively. I went and looked and posted this

"At 5 on 5:

4th lowest goals against
2nd lowest high danger area goals against

All situations:

7th lowest shots against a game
7th lowest goals against

Special teams:

12th best PK"

All of that while having the 2nd best PP in the league, 2nd to the most efficient PP of all time hahah
