How does the tipping work usually? I know you're supposed to do it but I couldn't find a source that would tell me what's "expected"....

people do it different ways.

Room: some people leave a tip every morning on the pillow. Some leave more the first day so they don't have to do it every day but that's kind of useless IMO since you might have different people cleaning your room.

Main bar where you think you will go often. Bartenders tend to work almost every day, tip early (last time I gave the guy a $20 bill, rarely waited for a drink after that), helps avoiding long line up.

I tipped a guy 1 euro in Southern Italy and he probably would have proposed to me right then and there.

I would drop a couple dollars once in a while but paid him $20 right away. Could have been a dumb move if they changed bartender every day but he was around every day except for one day I think and we were there for 10 days.
