Listen, the leafs can get it done. They just need to spend their resources on a coach to teach them how to cheat and get away with it more. I mean, if you do 20 things against the rules the refs are only going to call 2 because that's how many the other team got.

1 - 5 is also just bad. Are they giving money back to the mortgage payments people made for the tickets?

The little woke bastards will do their 3 minute, clean out their lockers shtick and they'll jet off into holiday time. They'll go deep sea fishing and hang out in Arizona. They don't care about what's being said back home and will collect their large cheques every two weeks. The rest of us will enjoy our 1 or 2 week holidays, this summer and grind out the heat until fall. It'll start all over again and the pretty little rock star's will come flying back in on a private jets, saying we will win it all this year! Wrong!!

7 year is long enough. The results speak for themselves. I'm done with these little, pretty fashion models playing a real man's game. What I'd give to see a Gary Roberts, Doug Gilmour or Wendel Clark type of player on this team. Right now, it's a two tiered pay scale, with cheaper, over the hill journeymen picking up the scraps from the spoiled rich kids. It's obvious that the analytics department is no match for heart and persistence. Shanahan needs to recognize this and make changes this summer. It's not enough to just give this pig a facelift and call it pretty. I'm tired of pretty.....I want blood and guts and a will to overachieve.

Since 2009 draft only one first overall has won the cup, and it took his TEAM 9 years.

Don't get me wrong, I get it. That puck went in and I started pounding the beers.

But it still feels very early for I drank tequila out of the bottle lineups.

The marleau deal that a previous GM gave up and Dubas had to clean up?
The Covid crushing the cap growth to stop the league from spending (if you recall the top players were all getting paid those numbers until covid happened and people had to re-assess but the leafs were already in)
There's a lot he has done that I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with an extension.

- Aaron_85

Marleau was signed by LouLams - I'm aware of that... Dubas gave up a 1st because he Dubas signed M & M to too much too soon. Dubas created the CAP log jam- those two plus Tavares and there's your cap crunch

If you're done with them does that mean we are done seeing you around here if they don't do what you wish?
- Aaron_85

It means that I won't watch them as much and will give them the proper criticism that they deserve. Too many fanboys around here sniffing butt. I guess you're good with their record going back a generation. Myself, I'd like to see them win one more Cup before I die. I was 9 the last time they won it. I'm a senior citizen now, and haven't even seen them in a Cup final since '67. It's starting to get like the Chicago Cubs syndrome that lasted over 100 years. Almost like the lost cause of the Confederacy.

As I mentioned in earlier posts. Leafs not built
For playoffs. No grit and forecheck. Get rid
Of Marner and Tavares…add to defence.

Going to root for our division champs.

Dubas should be kept.

But this is interesting

"Canes GM
Don Waddell, hired May 2018
inherited 21st place team that missed playoffs

In 5 yrs:
Reached 2nd rd every yr
Has now reached 2nd ECF

Canes have 4th best total regular season record over his 5 yrs.

His playoff roster has 4 guys he drafted.

Hired 3 days before Dubas!"

Panthers gm traded 100+ point guy and got a heart and soul power forward whos now in the 3rd round

I suspect that Shanahan may not have a choice.

My Leafy of all Leafyness crystal ball sees one or 2 things happening.

Nylander gets traded much to the delight of the Marner Fan Club. He goes to another team. Plays exactly as he did here but wins a Conn Smythe and the Nylander Bash Club claims he is trying harder with his new team.

We trade Mathews and Nylander. Marner is his regular season self and gets us to the playoffs where we get swept in 4 every year until he is too old to get us to the playoffs but we spend 4-5 years just out of the playoffs. So 10 years from now we can finally rebuild and not be playoff soft

That's a lot of typing to say you'll still be a miserable (frank) around here

Tough to win championships. Easier to be negative about it all because it's better odds for you to pat yourself on the back.

I'm more concerned over the Draft Lottery cheating. I was watching the NHL Network when they went to commercial break and let it out of the bag that Columbus would draft 3, before they even turned the card. It was obvious that Bettman juiced the draft to put Bedard in a large market and not on a team that deserved to win the pick. It's a scam and disgraceful.

Sooo Kessel 2.0?

Everyone keeps harping on "run it back" and making jokes but they want to keep running top stars out of town when they don't win as soon as they want.

You know it's filmed earlier than it's televised right?

It is sad that it is Nylander or Matthews that will go.

It is too bad JTs contract is not up before they get re-signed. Because Willie at 9 and Matthews at 13 with Marner at 11 and the cap going up would be good for the next 5-7 years.

Bruins players gave props to Florida for finishing their checks and being physical. Toronto fans are speaking to it now. Acciari may have lead in the hit stats but they weren’t of timely quality. Schenn gave what they needed. Acciari created more space for the Panthers than required. At 5’10” they just aren’t very effective. He helped the Panther’s fail in the playoffs last year. Some will always be best in regular season play.

The guy had 70 (frank)ing hits in 11 games. SEVENTY! Get the (frank) out of there about not being timely. You can't throw that many and not get some timely ones.

I guess misery loves company. It's frustrating to think of the years that I've watched this club. I went through the early 70's and the wars against Boston and the Rangers. Then the really good mid 70's teams that couldn't get by Montreal's great team. I remember the bleak '80's and the Leafs being in the Western Conference and making the playoffs with a sub .500 club and actually winning a couple of rounds the odd time. I remember the early 90's and the Gilmour years, almost making it to the finals but falling a goal short in game 7 to Los Angeles. I remember the late 90's and early 2000's and some great games, playing sometimes into the 3rd round. Then the bleak times since 2003 and not seeing them do anything for a generation.

You see, this team is made up of underachievers with talent. Dubas augmented them with more underachievers, until this year. He added some heart and soul guys, but what took so long? Now we have a bunch of jaded stars that never learned how to win and seem to be headed to spoiled milk in their careers. Unfortunately, the writing is on the wall. It has to change and to keep this core intact is asking for more bleak years going forward. Dubas has emptied the draft pick drawer so it's on them.

Ugh I just don't want to think about the final play. Not a penalty but it's a penalty last game. Pick and roll isn't a penalty unless directly for a scoring chance but then this isn't. It's just miserable because if the leafs weren't trash earlier in the series it wouldn't be an issue.
