Greg Wyshynski runs through the Mike Sullivan rumor to the Rangers with Larry Brooks’s theory and others thrown in. This is what he wrote about Patrick Roy:
Who would be an upgrade over Gerard Gallant? Patrick Roy would?
So here's the latest name floating around the Rangers. Roy was the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche from 2013-14 to 2015-16, winning the Jack Adams in his first season. That tenure ended with him taking his puck and going home in August 2016. He has been the head coach of the QMJHL's Quebec Remparts since 2018.
Roy and Rangers GM Chris Drury were teammates with the Avalanche, which fulfills the requirement that almost every hockey hiring has to involve people who played together, worked together or are at least second cousins. But would that take precedence over Roy being known to have a rather volatile personality ... or the fact that Drury would be hiring someone who quit his last NHL gig because he didn't have enough control over player personnel decisions?
Again, all of these theories follow the firing of an experienced, successful NHL coach in Gallant. There has to be a plan. It can't just be AHL coach Kris Knoblauch getting the promotion to take over a veteran team with lofty expectations. Can it?

can you imagine taking that Flyers job? with the Couturier, Atkinson and Ryan Ellis injury issues all signed long term. The Kevin hayes contract. Ristolainen?
maybe they couldnt get someone other than a TV guy to take that thing over
I think mine would be the exact opposite order. Curious why you think that way? (not being a jerk I'm actually trying to have a discussion).
I think Sullivan has done a really nice job in Pitt. He struggled here as asst and special teams coach but those teams from 2009-2013 didn't have half the talent we have now and in my eyes he proved what he can do with high end players (granted we don't have a crosby).
I think we'll all get sick of Roy's demeanor but he's had pretty good results outside of two years with a really bad Colorado team and his junior teams have been really good, albeit a very different league than the NHL.
Knoblauch has done an awesome job in Hartford I just worry about it translating to the NHL with highly paid stars and the pressure to win right away. We wouldn't be bringing him in as a developmental coach and it could be throwing him in the fire. People point to Cooper but Cooper coached a lot of those Tampa guys when they were in the minors. Our guys really never played for Knoblauch so it's not like he has real rapport with them
