Larry Brooks doing Brooks things...

Now hes got an article about how if Toronto fires Sheldon Keefe, that he may become a top candidate to for us to hire.

So were gonna take on a coach, whos had one of the most talented rosters in the NHL, that has essentially choked for 4 years?

Id rather have Spencer Carbery and Malhotra as one of the assistants.

If we are going retread I wouldn’t hate keefe at all. He has yet to have a reliable goaltender in any of those seasons. Imagine if he had a Shesty. Plus his roster is very similar to what the rangers have right now. High end players with not much depth scoring inbetween

The one thing about it that is going in the right direction is the age of the HC. I think we need that young fresh blood coaching this team. Most of those old fashioned coaches are all gone. Lindy is the only one left I think.

When it came to Quinn, it was the right move in theory, but it was the wrong coach at that time. Right idea going for a young coach, but we needed one who had a bit more seasoning. For a team that had put a lid on the rebuild and were looking forward, wasnt sold on a guy who had been in college for the previous 5 years.

Which is part of the reason why I wouldn’t hate keefe. Only 42 years old and has seasoning coahing in one of the toughest hockey markets. Makes me believe he could handle New York. Not saying he is my top choice but if he got fired and the rangers hired him I would be cool with it

What about VGK as a trade spot for Panarin? They have 3 backup goalies making 7.3 coming off the books next year plus some other UFA’s. They don’t have any PPG players outside of Eichel, maybe they’d be interested in adding a guy like Panarin. Take Marchessault in return (RW) 1 year left at 5 million and maybe a pick. Get the cap space and add a RW that scores 20+ regularly. Sign Bertuzzi (or whoever, Tarasenko etc) for 6-6.5 and I think we’re a better, more balanced team.

I don't think there's a single coach anybody is gonna like

we are probably looking at the most cynical, most miserable summer since the 1998-2004 years with this team, and some of us really thrive during those times, and some of us dont

As I determine my plans, wanted to reach and crowd source on two topics to gauge interest. Please let me know your views on each one.
1) should we cover the top-20 or so off season questions in blogs
2) if there is interest to do a mock draft, as we have in the past.

Quacking in Anaheim with Stromer

You’re the one that couldnt stand him before everyone else

This was the trade:

Pararin (No retainment, which hurts our end)

For

-Frankie wheels
-Silfverberg (more or less to off set some salary)
*you could do it with Henrique instead
-second rd picks this and next year
-Brayden Tracy (who I have no idea how he’s valued. I just remember liking him his draft year)

- Slimtj100

Its not that I couldnt stand him, I just thought he was wrong for the rebuild. Im pretty sure I also said we dont know how he will perform in the playoffs.

Idk. I think he would grant a request, mutually part ways in the right situation. It’s no doubt difficult, but I really think he’d be ok with a less pressurized situation. He would throughly enjoy Anaheim imo. You could do a lot in California with 11 million bucks lol. Would Anaheim want him tho? Is the question. To that I say yea, he could play with Fantilli and Zegras or mcTavish. They have fun players for him to play with. He really enjoys playing regular season no contact hockey he’s an infectious individual, you can tell the team loves him. We’ve just had enough of him on the ice imo and time to move on.

You forget 2 things, the Ducks are rebuilding, why would they want him when he is on the wrong side of 30 and 2 he isnt a proven playoff performer, so why would they really want him???

Lol Keith Jones is Philly’s new president

From the press box to Team Pres. JD has done pretty well, so why can't Jones? Only way is up for Philly anyways

Thoughts on the Pietrangelo slash? I didn't think it was quite as egregious as some are making it out to be? Acting like he was trying to kill him. It was nasty for sure but not sure it was suspension worthy.

That was intent to injure...plain and simple! Absolutely no reason for that other than trying to break his arm. At least 2 games IMO.

This^ applies to all of the Panarin hypotheticals above. We're just wasting our mental energy and time putting Panarin trade proposals together. Everyone in the league has seen him perform these last 2 years in the playoffs, know his salary hit, and know that a risk like that in this cap situation (especially giving us significant assets in return) is not worth it. And the other teams like Chicago and Anaheim that get floated about with lots of cap space would just be adding him to a rebuild too early and bumping their team up the draft order next year without actually challenging for a cup. So I don't get it with all the Panarin talk.

Our best card to play is hope that a new coach and system and some roster tinkering will help unlock him and get him out of his own head in next year's playoffs.

Gotta wonder if the fact he was shoved from behind into the boards by Kane just before that and this clearly being retribution by going after one of their stars will play into their decision.

If Draisaitl had broken his wrist can you imagine the pandemonium?

I think he was trying to send a message that he was done being (frank)ed with. Pietrangelo has been getting targeted a bit this series.

But I digress. I am more interested in how the Department of Player "Safety" will handle it. They have consistently shown an inability to properly handle these situations.

He got him in a decently padded area (at least that's what I think I observed). The camera angles weren't the best in what I saw.

It would be like when Graves slashed Lemieux.

It was not as bad as the Makar hit on the Seattle player...5k fine.

This inconsistency is what I am struggling with.

Edit: But that was a star player hitting a regular player. This is a borderline star player hitting maybe the 2nd best player in the world.

I agree. The outcome (Draisaitl not being injured) shouldn’t affect the punishment. The intent to injure was there and Draisaitl was lucky he didn’t break his wrist.

Nurse also got an integrator with under 2 mins left, which is automatically reviewed by the league as well for a suspension.

That was a 2 handed chop with stick starting above his shoulders. Brutal
