The point on Laf Jimmy made is probably the best one made so far (that I’ve seen) priority should be to get Laf going.
- Slimtj100

Nathan MacKinnon had his two worst seasons playing under Roy. He could be good for Laf but I'm not 100% sold on him just because of the french-canadian connection

That can and should come from the coach as well as the staff. Insert staff joke here
- picklerick

He did coach him the Q where he was great. That should have some currency

well he won the Calder trophy playing for him, and after Roy was fired he had a poor year too, and then something happened and he blew up

but Mackinnon and Lafreniere are so fundamentally different in every way

I think the problem you guys are having is seeing that everyone is going to have flaws or they wouldn’t be free to be hired. Perhaps they need an bumhole 🤷🏻‍♂️

Not that I'm aware of. He coached against him. He coaches the Quebec Remparts. Laf played for Rimouski

That's fair. He did have a good year the first year and then things went to hell.

And agreed they are different players and personalities I just meant in terms of fostering a 1st overall pick

Roy said this after Rangers won lottery:

“ ‘Character’ is the word that I use to describe Alexis,” said Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy, who has seen Lafreniere up close and personal the past two years from behind the bench as GM/coach of QMJHL Quebec. “It is one thing to be a top prospect, or maybe the runner-up, but it is different when you are No. 1 and are under the spotlight all year, the way he was.

“I thought he did a super job of handling that. He has quality people around him. He has stayed humble. I’m not sure of the exact word in English, but he always has two feet on the ground. He’s a team player and a team guy. Without a doubt he would fit in with the Rangers and perform very well in New York.”

well that kind of talk just indicates that you wanna bail out on Lafreniere already

and that may be the way to go, I don't know, but I think realistically, if they are hanging onto him, that's also one of the biggest questions during the interviews, what they can do to get lafreniere going

nah i don't think i'm 100% there on bailing. just pointing out that i'm sure every 1st overall pick gets that kind of talk before they play. I get that you were using it in the context of Roy & Laf

Laughing at the idea of Laf showing up super jacked and 10x slower than he already is. Gliding around the ice, trying to go between the legs to the backhand at 2mph

That's kinda where I am with Kakko. When he was draft eligible at the world championships against non age restricted NHL players, He looked great. Now it looks like he's getting slower ever year. So frustrating, because I don't blame him. I fully blame the Rangers skill/positional coaches.

Kakko plays that puck protection, possession kind of game though. Laf very much does not. Kakko looks closer to breaking out to me

There are signs of improvement with Kakko for sure, but not in his speed or pace of place. And it looked like he had that when he was dominating with Finland. So why and where has that gone?
