Panarin seems to be getting a lot of the blame in terms of not producing.
- ses111

Yeah he is but I was referring between then two players that came over in trade.

Attempted manslaughter.
Judge only gave me 6 months because a Laffs fan was the "victim".

The Judge must have been a Leaf's fan as most DA's don't prosecute manslaughter anymore and definitely don't put the seldom charged in jail!

Well there goes Kieth Jones. Great resume would have been a terrific replacement for Lou! I mean what are L and M doing letting him go to the flyers!

Andrew Gross
@AGrossNewsday
#Isles Ilya Sorokin, along with Bruins Linus Ullmark and Jets' Connor Hellebuyck are the three Vezina finalists.

Why would anyone want Sullivan? Especially the Rangers? Wouldn’t you just keep Gallant if that’s your replacement? I’m just not enamored with the guy. Won with Crosby, Malkin and Letang all in their primes. Hasn’t won anything since. That team has been our personal punching bag for like 5 years now.

Flyers hiring Keith Jones to be the President of Hockey Ops is absolutely hilarious
- eichiefs9

Good. We don't have to see him on broadcasts and the Flyers will be run by that moron. Win/win!

Am I the only one here that doesn't want to see Sorokin win the Vezina this year?

I don't care much, but why?

We know he's good, and I don't care about most trophies. They are generally a popularity contest anyway. What's the harm if he wins?

I assume he’s saying due to him having more leverage with his next contract if he wins it.

Canes take out The Devils in 5. Well deserved.

I don't see that making much of a difference.

If he wins the Vezina it will help his agent get a better number for sure imo. It certainly won’t hurt their position.

Meh. It won't hurt but I don't see it moving the needle much. I think the expectation is he will win it at some point even if it isn't this year.

Actually winning it and banking on an expectation are two different things. Agree to disagree on this one…. More importantly the Devils lost in five games to the Canes so I guess this means we’re better then the Devils now and our PP is good. Right?

It's funny watching the analysts heap praise on the Canes for their amazing structure, attention to detail, and commitment to their system and style of play, which all takes a fast and skilled team like the Devils off its game... ... ...when the same analysts endlessly trash the Isles on national broadcasts for doing a very similar thing, albeit with a different system to achieve the same end of suffocating the opposition. Neither team relies on individual skill, betting instead on "everyone pulling on the same rope" (a phrase we've heard Trotz use many times and one that was also used on the broadcast last night).

I think the difference is that the Canes play a fast-paced, aggressive game to achieve that goal, while the Isles just kind of sit back and give you the outsides and smother you.

It's not any sort of complaint about the Islanders, but I think the Canes are more "fun" to watch. But I'd watch paint dry if it meant the Islanders were successful

Great point UIF. It's very dishonest not to call out the Canes as well.

Correct Capt. If Sorokin wins for this past season its going to cost the Islanders more.
Also good calls on the commentators guys. The Canes do the same thing the Islanders do. Maybe a different system because they play man to man but it's a team system. Canes get praise for it . Islanders get a bunch of dopes "sleeping " on the set of national broadcasts.

If you're a Canes fan I guess it's fun. But for letting the league's stars shine, I think when the Canes execute their system well it makes the most skilled players appear mistake-prone and ordinary, much like the Isles when they execute well. The Canes just do it with a man-to-man approach.

I'd also point out the 2018 Cup winning Caps team played a nearly identical system to the Isles and I never heard a single analyst call them boring.

It makes me wonder, if the Isles scored a bunch more goals off the turnovers they already create, would they cease to be a "boring" team? It'd be just as frustrating for other teams to play against, but does running up the score change the whole perception?

Probably. I think it's the low-scoring offense coupled with the smothering defense that's why people call them boring. The Caps had Ovi et al. and certainly had more flair than the Isles do

Yep, that's what I think as well...but I also feel like the Isles + Ovi would be even more "boring" if you're a fan of the opposing team. Your chances of coming back in any given game are slimmer if you're down by three rather than one!

That’s exactly why this team needs more scoring.

Agreed! For the record, I don't find the Isles or the Canes to be boring. I think they make teams really have to bear down and give it everything they have to break the system. When teams do that, you get Game 5 last night, which was clearly the best in the series because the Devils put it all on the line.

The only hockey I find "boring" is non-competitive hockey. Blowouts are only really fun if you're rooting for the winning team. Otherwise, it's not worth watching once the score is out of control. The second round of the playoffs have had decent series, but a lot of boring games within those series. Vegas and Edmonton are two of the most exciting teams to watch in general, but that series hasn't been all that exciting when the games have basically been over after the first period.

I'd rather watch a "boring" low-scoring Islanders game that comes down to the final seconds.

I agree with chiefs when he says I don’t care how they are playing if they win. Or I should say I mostly agree. There were quite a few games this past season that were like watching paint dry. Many of us commented about it on here. They were different then watching a game under trotz which were almost mechanical and entertaining in their execution to me at least.

This past season was something different imo and I can see the difference btn the islanders and canes from an entertainment stand point. Canes have more talent and are a fast team. I can get why some people found us boring this past season at times. Not saying every game was boring by any means but there were a decent amount to me. The trotz teams were more entertaining to me mostly because of our forecheck which I loved. This team doesn’t have much of one.

I get what you're saying. I think it's more about execution than the system...yeah, it's boring watching a team dump but not chase, and chip the puck to the neutral zone with no follow up like they did too many times this season. That first regular season and all of their playoff runs under Trotz were a lot more exciting because they combined tight-checking defense with attacking in waves with all four lines. I don't think this season is what Lane envisioned, though. If anything, his changes to the system should result in an even more sustained forecheck since the d-men are supposed to get more involved. The execution just wasn't always there.
