It’s not just the arena though, is it? It’s a revitalization of the downtown core which is badly needed. Crap downtown Calgary was dead at nights when I lived there in the 80’s. People will always complain when tax $ are spent for a project they won’t ever use. It’s the same everywhere, even in Kelowna with our grey haired population, don’t mention new rec centers or you’ll start a debate on why its needed.

It's the stampede grounds. So once again another hugely profitable company getting their entire area rebuilt on the tax payers dollar. Of the estimated $1.22B project csec is estimated to pitch in 350M, the rest is from the city and province. That's not flying over so well with a lot of locals.

If they are never going to rank the team needs to learn from Carolina, Nashville, and St. Louise and start selling these players in their prime for assets and not sign them into thier late 30’s.

Hanifin would garner tons of interest but I think I wait and see how Kylington shows at camp. As much as I don’t want to, I’d be moving Backlund, he asked for a trade last summer. We’ve got 7 guys coming up for contract, let’s see how the season plays out and if needed, sell at the deadline.

I agree with this, we’re stuck with Huberdeau and Kadri, let’s not try to sign all the UFA’s. It’s going to be real interesting this off season. Flame fans have lots to be excited about. Hopefully we make some moves.

They might be able to get out if that Huberdeau contract if he goes back to form and they add a sweetener.

If I am management I am going to have some pretty heavy talks with both of these players. If they do not want to be here they need to play their way out of here.

Yeah. It will depend on the salary cap for next season. If the cap increases by $1M, our cap space will only be $1.2M and one of those 7 players will have to be moved to the draft to gain some flexibility. The other NHL scenario is that the cap could increase by $4.5M.

Serious question…… does the deal for that shiny new rink persuade Flame fans to vote UCP if you normally wouldn’t or undecided? No judgment, I wouldn’t blame anyone. Calgary needs it IMO.
