With Fasching they have 13 forwards signed for next year. Thats not counting Engvall, Wally or Parise. Someone has to go to either bring those 3 back or to bring in someone else. I guess Holmstrom and Johnston could be sent down. So I still say they trade someone besides Bailey.
- chazpet

Engvall is a UFA and I would bet he's not coming back. I would also bet Parise comes back at thw league min again.

I like Engvall but I bet he gets at least 3.5 or 4. We’re not in a position to pay him that.

Engvall seemed like a good fit, and adds some elements the Isles don't otherwise have. I don't know, maybe teams will be lining up to throw money at him, but I'm not sure he's up for some massive payday or anything. He just doesn't strike me as a player teams are talking about much or would go all-in for.

If he's affordable, why not bring him back? If the number on Fasching is correct ($775K?), and Parise comes back for super cheap, and Engvall can be had for a reasonable amount, then that allows the Isles to fill roster spots with decent players without shoveling out unreasonable deals for support players the way they have in the past. Maybe that frees up some money to take a swing at someone notable.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like a GM would be answering a lot of questions for paying $4m for Engvall. Is he that in-demand?

He’s getting paid 2.25 now. You would think he’d get a raise with his best offensive production this past season. I do like him and his speed which we lack but I just think even with that production wise he’s more of the same imo.

I mean yeah we can call Ishakov up I guess at some point but who else? Dufour? We know what we have there that kid is far out from contributing unless he takes some monumental leap in his development. Durandeau I guess you could make a case for he looked decent in spots. My point being is we looked at a bunch of young players this past season some of which got some real playing time. What I’m saying is to me it seems redundant. I’m saying that knowing we should always evaluate players I just don’t see how we carve out this year for focusing on that. We did it already. We know what we have. Also, even with buying out Bailey we’re going to have to move a five million plus a yr player to accommodate some substantial player. That’s without even factoring in signing Sorokin the following season.
- Cptmjl

I think we need to do a lot more than give these young players A look. We need a real sample size. We do not know what we really have with Dafour, Wally, Salo, or Durandeau. What better option is there if we do not have the Cap room or if we cannot sign quality UFA's? We've been there done that with only making minor moves.

Please tell him to:

1) Fire Lou.
2) Trade Pageau.
3) Buyout Bailey.
4) Let Mayfield walk (unless he wants to sign for cheap).
5) Sign NO out of house UFAs to term.
6) Trade NO more picks.
7) Burn ALL remaining fish stick jerseys.
8) Have Lee send me a signed road jersey.
9) Give you season tickets, but only if you say “fück” three times consecutively.

Thank you.

- Wildschwein

You seriously want a Lee signed road jersey after he came up so small these playoffs?

Looks like he had 30 points this year compared to 35 last year. And 17 goals this year compared to 15 last year. That's not screaming mega-raise to me, but who knows what people will pay for I guess.

GM's always overpay - always. I don't get why they do it.

Gotcha. I thought he had a better goal output this season without looking. I guess it really depends on what direction Lameriello wants to go this season. I assume he’ll do what he usually does and continues going for it. Not sure he would invest what little cap space we have into another middle six player but who knows. I would like to think if he were actually going to continue to push to be competitive he would invest in a little bit more of a needle mover but maybe not. We’ve made a living for the past four years with mostly middle six players. I say that liking Engvall btw.

He had an expanded role with the Isles, playing top six minutes and pp time. He's also played the PK. In a year where the UFA list is a bit 'meh' and the cap will eventually go up, Pierre will likely get more than his typical market

Well Wally if healthy will probably be given every opportunity to get a spot in the lineup I would assume. As far as the other guys I’m not really sure what you’re expecting? A couple months of play regardless of their performance? Chances are they will get another shot, maybe for an extended period depending on their play, that’s why I’m a little confused with what you’re suggesting.

There’s no (frank)ing way Engvail get 4 million

I'm not stating play them if they are overwhelmed or not giving a good effort. It just cannot be quick benching like the past or play the vets no matter what. If the Islanders can free a bunch of Cap space and sign quality UFA's that would be fine but very doubtful it happens. Lou can want to compete for a Cup, but he needs the resources to make it happen.

Exactly right! It's not know for the silly season for nothing. Engvail man not get 4 million but will probably still price himself off the team.

Wes McCauley and his gang leaving their mark on this game so far. Seems Wes always has a big impact

I don’t disagree about not having the assets or cap space to actually make an impact add. I just don’t see Lameriello going in the direction you’re suggesting unless one of these kids forces his hand. Hopefully one or more do. I will say most of these kids got a pretty fair shot last season imo. Most of them just didn’t perform well enough to get a longer look. Maybe they developed and that changes.

I must have missed how most of the kids were given a fair shot. Salo was not given a lot of games. Dufour one game and Isakov 0 games. Maybe Dufour and Dufour were not ready. Durandeau was not given many games. Islanders do not have a good track record with young players. Even Dobson struggled.

Salo got a bunch of games from what I remember this season and his game started falling off and Aho wound up sticking. Dufour was so clearly not ready I don’t really blame them for not giving him another look. That may have actually hurt his development if they did. Durandeau got four games and looked ok I thought. Iskakhov will probably get a look this year if he continues to play well I would think of there’s an injury which I’m sure there will be. Believe me I’m not sticking up for their player development but I think these kids for the most part aren’t that great or haven’t developed to the point where they deserve the time in the nhl yet.

Maybe the players are not great and that's on the Islanders for not hiring better scouts and player development people. If you cannot sign quality FA's, you better be able to draft well.

Maybe but it probably has more to do with them having one of the worst prospect pools in the NHL from trading whatever decent kids they had and consecutive first round picks.

Wow Devils pulling ahead pouring it on here. Shestyrkin held them in for as long as he could. One of the fastest team I’ve ever seen. Puck movement is incredible. Hopefully they keep it up.

If Fasching is 775k a year, that’s a great deal. He has one thing this team lacks, speed.
