Everyone knew Florida was much better than their record indicated, it just took them a while to hit their stride. Boston on the otherhand seemed to massively overachieve all year. This series was the ultimate example of the truth lying somewhere in between.

Boston looked scared in OT. Couldn’t handle the pressure which for a veteran team is crazy. Panthers never took their foot off the gas good for them.

Let's hope they beat the leafs in 4.
- JimmyP

Yeah good for the leafs for getting out of the first round but now I’m all about them losing again.

Love for the panthers to win the cup because there isn’t a team I care less about in the playoffs.

Everyone?
Majority of the people were saying Boston steam rolls Florida . Especially the HB and internet GMs. Come on Keaner.

Seems like the stars are aligning for Toronto, especially if the Rags fall tomorrow. I do think Florida could grind Toronto down over the course of a series, much in the same way they did with Boston

Said it when the Leafs got ROR. This just might be their year. Not that I would like that.

And The Kraken beat the Champs. The parity in the league is truly amazing.

Yeah, because no experts picked Boston. Dude, I didn’t see one person, period, pick Florida to win this series. It’s a little more than “Internet GMs” and “HB.”

And…that’s exactly what we did in the 3rd period on Friday, took our foot off the pedal. Would have played game 7 earlier if we hadn’t.

Did anyone on this thread actually make any picks for who was going to win series? I don’t remember doing it nor do I remember anyone else doing it. Nor do I remember anyone on here even discussing Florida winning or losing for that matter. Maybe I’m remembering wrong but I think we were all a little caught up in our own series. If I were a betting man I probably would’ve picked Boston. Hysterical. I’ll also add. Who cares?

We looked like that multiple times throughout the series unfortunately. Was hoping they’d snap out of it.

Really wanted the Rangers to win the first round solely to have the chance to play them if we advanced. Now that’s changed of course. Hopefully the Devils take care of business tonight.

I'm not saying everyone, or even hardly anyone, picked Florida (I thought that had a shot and didn't think Boston was as good as their record).
My point was that most people realize that Florida was a previous Presidents cup winner who added Tkachuk yet barely made the playoffs. I certainly felt they were a lot better than a game 82 entry and a dangerous team to play.

Yep. Hope to be wrong but agreed. Not sure what UFA’s are available this season? Not sure if we’ll even be able to accommodate the cap space necessary to sign one if we even have a chance?

Orlov played some big minutes for Boston, so thats somewhat intriguing. I could see the isles landing Sean Monhahan.

I don't even know what my feelings are about what to do. They can continue going for it or they can try taking a step back and retooling a little.

Fasching may ultimately be a really good fourth liner. Clutterbuck played great down the stretch but his health (and play, to some degree) has been an issue the last couple years. Might make sense to either try and move him or buy him out and let Fasching take over that role.

Curious if Parise keeps after it or decides to hang them up.

Bailey...well we all know what we want and what history tells us, but the organization seems more done now with him than ever so who knows.

Johnston should be (permanently) buried in the minors, we'd get the full relief from his $1.1M cap hit.

I said it recently...I like Engvall a lot, but I believe that re-signing him at market price would be a mistake. Can't keep paying retail for bottom-six talent.

I just have a weird feeling about Pageau. I'm not endorsing the idea of moving him but it just seems like he'd be worth some sort of middling return and he wasn't great this year, especially in the playoffs. I won't be shocked if it turns out Lou entertains offers for him.

I feel like if we were going to take a step back and do a quick retool we lost that opportunity when we retained all of our UFA’s and traded for Horvat giving up a first and Raty. I also believe if Lameriello remains our GM, which I think he will, he has zero interest in doing that. He proved that by doing what he did at the trade deadline.

As far as Fasching is concerned I’m on board with giving him a full time role on the 4th line if we can find a way to shed some salary. Always loved our fourth line never loved its cost. They were largely ineffective this series save for some spots. If there were a way to get rid of Martin and or Clutterbuck sign me up. Their natural regression is evident and it isn’t going to be better next season.

I like Engvall also but as you stated the juice will most likely not be worth the squeeze imo. A modest raise on what he’s making already prices him out as far as I’m concerned.

Stated the same thing about Pageau yesterday on here. I like him but he may be the only way to realistically shed a decent chunk of salary without giving up anything. Problem with that is it more then likely moves Barzal back to center and then we have to fill in the wings which to me was the real problem with this team to begin with. One of many reasons the Horvat trade never made any sense to me.
