Bailey - Gone, Trade or Buyout Agreed Buyout.
Parise - Gone, Retired Disagree Stays one more year.
Mayfield - Gone, Overpaid on the open market Agreed
Engvall - Stays, Lou overpays unfortunately on another bottom 6 forward Disagree Team friendly deal.
Varly - Stays on a team friendly 2 yr deal Agreed
Johnston - Gone, Waived or Traded Agreed waived..
Pageau - Gone, Traded Disagree

Lou - Not going anywhere Agreed
Lambert - Returns on an extremely short leash. Agreed
Houda - Gone Disagree
McClean - Gone Disagree

I pretty much agree on your disagreements. Especially Pageau. Lou worked hard and gave up a lot to get Pageau. While JGP did indeed have a bad season, I think Lou keeps him to see if he can resurrect his game.

As am I. He’s an incredibly gifted skater and play maker. That said why did The Islanders play their best and most consistent hockey this season when he was out? Can’t wrap my head around this.

I've seen it before with other teams where the star goes down and you expect them to fade, but instead it's almost a wake-up call to the other players, or maybe even an opportunity for them to step into the spotlight or a new role. Whatever the reason, my guess is it was something similar here. Barzal doesn't strike me as a guy who'd be a black cloud or a downer for the rest of the team or anything like that.

I've sometimes wondered about that. He doesn't seem to like doing interviews with Shannon or whomever. Not saying the guy is a downer, but I do wonder about his "people skills" so to speak... He doesn't exactly come across as the most cheerful guy in the room. He's certainly no Uncle Leo.

Lets look at the defenseman

Pulock and Pelech are a lock
Romanov and Dobson are a lock.

That leaves Aho as an option

Bolduc RFA
Wotherspoon UFA
Mayfield UFA

Potentially need two Dmen...
