What was said after the LAST time the Isles lost to the Canes in the playoffs was that they didn't have enough scoring. Fast forward to the present and it's the same problem. Plus now the PP is even WORSE. The all around lack of offense from the top 6 is sinking this team.
- Mancalledsting

This team gets pretty much no offense from their defense like other teams get. Islanders have not been able to increase their offense without the wheels coming off the defense.

Yeah, I have a tough time blaming things on Lambert. I haven't agreed with everything he's done, but I've liked a few things also. I say all this as someone who was 1,000% against firing Trotz. I'm not sure players like Holmstrom, Aho, Fasching, Bolduc, etc. would have been given the opportunities they got if Trotz was still coaching. I'm not sure Bailey finally gets scratched for longer than a single game under Trotz. The D obviously had more of a green light this season compared to last, and that probably was the difference between making the playoffs and not.

Ultimately, I'm not sure what miracles Lambert was expected to perform. A lot of the deficiencies we all knew this team had are still present. I don't think Lambert can will more creativity into an offense that's just not very creative in its make-up. Both Trotz and Lambert recognized that this team has to play a very specific way to grind out wins, and there's always just a razor's-edge difference between success and failure with that method.

Ultimately, if the Isles don't make a comeback in this series and Lambert is the sacrificial lamb (sacrificial Lamb-ert?), then I think that's a mistake. If he goes, then the whole team should be re-imagined for a new coach. If they're just going to keep virtually all the same players and try again, then they should keep the coach who knows the team and knows how it has to play to win.

Could not agree more UIF. This is way beyond coaching at this point. It's been said many times that without Sorokin this is not a playoff team.

Gostisbehere and Chatfield both looked like they hurt something in morning skate. So that's fun.

I feel like your entire lineup can get injured and be out and we would still find a way to lose.

Never mind. Both are good to go says Brind'amour.

Drury out so either Derek Stepan draws back in or one of Jamieson Rees or Vasily Ponomarev will make their NHL debut.

Freddie Andersen to be the back up.

Sure did.

Lambert's got Barzal-Horvat-Lee back together at morning skate.

hey maybe it'll make Horvat a functional NHL player again!

Or maybe force-feeding them a diet of Slavin-Burns will render them totally useless. I dunno.

Palmieri's been good?

Maybe it's frustrating, but I sort of get it: These are the guys who are supposed to get it done. Barzal is the man. Horvat was brought in to finally be the trigger man that Barzal had been lacking. Lee is the leader. If there are three players who need to go out there and carry the team to victory, it's them. It's nice if other players contribute, but those guys need to lead the charge.

Honestly not much for Lane to do at this point. Bo and Barzal were looking good before Barzal got hurt. I'm not surprised Barzal is not putting up numbers becuase of his injury and the Canes. Lee will just have trouble with his lack of speed. Does it make sense to swap Lee with Engvall? I just like the idea of making changes even if it ends up not doing much.

Don't think No Scorevat is striking fear in the heart of the Canes anytime soon

I suspect Lambert will plug in the line blender early if things aren't working. I wouldn't mind trying something like Engvall-Nelson-Barzal if the need arises

Islanders have to be willing to try anything chief. You have to think outside the box when the talent is lacking. Running the same lineup is not the answer.

Keeping things fluid might help them get some of the more "skilled" (I use that term loosely) guys away from Slavin. I don't know, it probably doesn't even matter at this point. One win in four games probably doesn't bode well for needing to take three in a row.

Engvall's speed has been a bit of a problem for them so I don't hate it. He just has to get to the right spot quickly and Barzal can find him.

Slavin is a really good shut down guy and Burns, Him and Staal have done a great job on the Isles top players. You have to give them credit. There’s a reason they were 2nd in defense this year.
If I’m not mistaken Palms is the leading goal scorer in the PO for the Islanders currently with 2

Just giving the Canes a different look would be something at least. Maybe switch Bo with Palms?

This. I’ll also say what is Lambert supposed to do? Shuffling the deck is going to unlock some unrealized offense with these guys? I have my doubts with that one.
