Look, I have watched Mayfield play and I think he is a decent player. He is not a top 4 defenseman, and honestly the Flyers couldn't afford one right now. What he is a servicable veteran RHS defenseman that can help the Flyers PK and he is cheap. Torts says he wants to augment the team with 2nd tier veteran players than can fill in the gaps and specifically mentioned help the PK. Mayfield fits that type of player. So does Nosek from the Bruins at forward. - jd250
The Flyers already have two 3rd pair defenseman in Seeler and Ristolainen. Why do they want to overpay in free agency for another 3rd pair guy? Mayfield would not help the Flyers PK. |

That's right, because McAvoy really looks like a Norris trophy winner in this series with Florida! Just another example of you just looking at stats without watching a single game. You have become quite lazy in your player evaluations I must say. - jd250
So, evaluating the guy based on a few games in a playoff series? Well, if that isn't the pot calling the kettle something something...

Actually I have watched quite a bit of the Boston series. You don't even realize how your statement made in sarcasm is actually correct. He is playing like a Norris trophy winner. You just aren't capable of seeing it. As you think he is overrated, and Mayfield is a shut down defender type. It just goes on and on and on. Every day as sure as the sun will come up, you embarrass yourself. |

He's coming off a career year where he averaged 21+ mins per game. Somebody's gonna give him a large pay bump this summer and I'd rather it not be the Flyers.
Nosek is a replacement plug. Rather play Desnoyers or Laz. |

Not sure how he's survived this long but given the praise that was lobbed his way by both Torts and the FO I think he's going to stick around. Still does not absolve the absolutely awful way his team ended the season. Not securing home ice advantage at the end of the regular season and then failing to put away Charlotte after winning game 1. Then that pathetic performance in game 3. So much for all those players getting the experience of a deep playoff run. |

The pro scouting (Brown & Co), analytics (Anderson & Co) and player development (Kjell & Co) departments desperately need to be cleaned out. |

so you want a bottom-tiered d man to partner with the top D prospect?
Makes total sense |

I would hope if they did that, whomever they hire to replace the analytics department is able to put together an age distribution chart. That's key. |

They will also need to keep GMDB up-to-date on where the team ranks within point percentage increase |

Who said that I did that? I didn't. Maytbe you think so? I have watched Mayfield for the past few seasons and noticed he was an UFA this year, and given his price tag and the need for the Flyers to improve their PK, think he might be a good veteran defenseman to fill that role. |

Sure, if some team offers him 4 x $4M or even more I agree with you. I am basing this suggestion only on trying to sure up the 3rd pair and PK with a good but cheap veteran along the lines of what Torts has stated they might be looking for. Surely don't want the Flyers to spend this off-season, nor block any of their younger players. However they do need help defending on the PK and I don't see anyone in their current system that can do that, at least not yet. |

Another ridiculous and poorly thought out statement. With the Flyers reportedly having the second highest bonus cushion carryover penalty in the league, of over a million dollars. You're suggesting that signing an average player in Mayfield to a UFA contract will be a wash. Can't make it up. |

If you thikn McAvoy is playing like a Norris winner, its you who are embarrassing yourself. And read my post again, I saiud Mayfield is a shutdown-type of defender, I didn't say he was Hedman. |

Again, Mayfield is not a good PKer. He will not shore up the PK. The Flyers already have a 3rd defense pairing in Ristolainen and Seeler. The Flyers need top 4 defenseman. Especially if they trade Provorov. The Flyers need to concentrate on drafting, not signing those players. |

He's not what you say he is. As far as McAvoy is concerned. You don't know what you're looking at.
Here are the results of when McAvoy is on the ice so far this playoff season. These numbers match what I'm seeing with my eyes.
CF% 55.32% GF% 75.00 GA/60 0.9 xGF% 59.44 SCF% 57.58 HDSCF% 56.25 |

Mcavoy is a top 5 Dman in the NHL. Makar Hedman Josi are only clear ahead. Karlsson with a hell of a year but if I’m building a team I’m taking mcavoy over EK |

Scott Mayfield stinks.
He's 30 years old and slow as hell.
Without a tight checking defensive system he might not even be an NHL caliber player. |

I'm sure Torts would love to have a lineup full of Mayfields and Noseks. Those are the kinds of players he loves and would play the absolute poop out of.
But if you're Danny you avoid giving Torts those kinds of crutches because you want the kids to get the minutes and develop... you don't want Torts to ride the grizzled vets all the way to a #10-16 finish. |
