You see it as unprofessional, I see it as a coach that is making it crystal clear to everyone on and around the team as to who is in charge. I don't believe Torts when he stated he didn't know the players were playing in their respective home towns. He absolutely knew it and he used that to send a message. Torts obviously felt he needed to do this. The question is why did he feel this way? Did he do it simply because he is a sedistic person that loves to mess with people, or did he do it to send a clear message. I tend to think the latter. - jd250
Those healthy scratches with friends and family in attendance were big F yous and let the lockerroom know that Torts is in charge. Torts wants his team to have accountability but then he claims he didn't know that the scratch would affect them that way. F you. Torts is a duschbag. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt this season but I just can't stand him.
Torts knew what he was doing. He could have sent a message in a different way. I'm not debating if Sanheim and Frost both deserved to be benched our scratched, I'm saying he deliberately sat them in their hometowns. Because he could. He's the coach.

Just put yourself in his shoes.
You've invited dozens of your friends and family to the game. All the people who've supported and made personal/financial sacrifices along the way so you could realize your dream of playing in the NHL. They want to be there for you, to honor your journey and success. Some have traveled some distance and at some expense to be there that night.
Then, out of the blue, you're announced as a healthy scratch.
You're in the room, heated and humiliated.... wondering what your family and friends are feeling in the stands, how confused and distraught your parents and grandparents must be that you're not on the ice. You're imagining the awkwardness of having to go up into the stands after the game to explain to each and every one of them what happened. You're imagining how uncomfortable the post-game family dinner is gonna be, how the night was effectively spoiled for everyone, not just yourself.
Yeah, it's not the kind of thing you just shrug off and forget. - Tomahawk
I've been listening to Spittin Chicklets and you better believe that any coach that ever wronged a player is not forgotten. Merls is still pissed at Lavy for sending him down on the plan back to Carolina. How many years ago?? You even hear people bring up things that happened in juniors.

Haha yeah, for sure.
The Mike Commodore stories about Babs were real eye-openers. Babs, who hated Commie, asked Holland to sign Commie as a UFA at the end of his career just to bury him and (frank) with him. Like wow. |

Just as a point of reference, Bill Billichick does it the exact same way every Monday morning after a game. He has doen it this way for over 20 years, and the result was 9 super bowl appearances and 6 Super Bowls! Tom Brady complains about it now, but it clearly worked for quite a long time. - jd250
What has Belichek done post-Brady? What has Brady done post Belichek? |

I think they need to make trades for picks and sign players to 1 year contracts so we can flip them at the deadline to get more picks. - bradster

To me it sounds like Torts was pushing buttons on players to see which ones have heart and which ones are there for a paycheck. We found out who is who and now we need to get rid of 4 or 5 players and let the kids play next season.
Attard, Forester i would give a shot to and maybe lyksell in the bottom 6.
Don't sign anyone, and weaponize your cap space during the summer and at the TDL next year for picks. Take calls on any player on the team even Hart, this team is not going to compete in the next 5 to 7 years so load up on high end picks and once you have your core then go after a few vets to fill in slots.
Identify positions of need, Center, RHD, and a Sniper are 3 that come to mind. Don't just take the best player available, take the player the team needs for the future success.
Main thing is patience, this needs to be torn down to the ground. Will they do it?I know they should but will comcast allow it? - Flyerloon
Some companies use "we will pay you to leave" strategy for that. People who are there for the company and personal growth will stay.

Do you think there is potential for a really good player to not get along with Tortorella and offend his idiosyncrasies. Causing Tortorella to lobby against the player? We already know that he has mistreated good players and had to be forced to play younger players more. - MJL
Let's get specific names for the current Flyers roster. Who, in your opinion, are really good players that "did not get along with tortorella and offended his idiosyncrasies"?" |

We've already seen the disparity between how he treated Frost versus say Tippett or Cates. There has been a report that the GM and others such as Briere had to convince Tortorella to play young players more. He has only been here one season. This is an issue that would develop over time. |

One, that doesn't matter and two, it's not personal. Three, it's not a vendetta.

What has Belichek done post-Brady? What has Brady done post Belichek? - Quetzalcoatl
There is no doubt that Bellichick has lost his fast ball and is hanging around for the all time record. But you can't just throw away 20 years of excellence simply because Brady won another superbowl on what was a stacked team that just needed a competent QB to get over the top. |

At least three players that are definately not going to be here next season are Hayes, Allison and Provorov. Out of the three I think the Flyers should be able to get some good assets for Provorov in terms of picks and prospects. |

I hope Sanheim doesn't forget it. I hope he uses this as fuel to improve his play so this never happnes to him again. Sanheim sucked pretty much the entire season, and now the Flyers are stuck with him because of the incompetance of Fletcher. Sanheim has a lot of work to so if he is ever going to live up to his contract. We give Risto crap about his contract, Sanheim's in magnitudes worse IMO. |

1. he is a RW and the Flyers are over-loaded at RW and 2. Torts is not a fan (he is always hurt and thus unrelaible). |

I disagree on a number of fronts. Sanheim did not have a strong season. He did not push the puck and get involved in the offense enough. However his play away from the puck was solid. The major difference between Sanheim and Ristolainen is Sanheim is a pretty good player who just had a sub par year. While Ristolainen has never really been that good and is declining as a player. I believe that Sanheim will bounce back. I don't like the term of his contract but the AAV is fine for a player of his ability.

The Flyers are not overloaded at any one position. I think you have misread this situation again. With the Flyers position, it's possible for any player to be moved but Allison is not a player I would put in the definitely gone category.
