We still need dates for games so he has a few more days. Maybe game 1 on Sat but Sunday seems more likely with regular season games going thru tomorrow
- Upstate_isles

I believe they said their series would start on either Monday or Tuesday, depending on opponent

edit: yeah, Monday 4/17 is the start of the playoffs. Nothing this weekend.

I'd imagine they could conceivably have today off, skate Fri/Sat/Sun and then either morning skate Monday if we play then or morning skate Tuesday if we play then. Who knows.

I hope it's pushed back to Monday or Tuesday

Not really. We suck worse than the Pens, and have for quite some time.

If we can get Romanov back by game 1 and Barzal by Game 3, that’s my best case scenario.

I actually think Romanov may take a little longer to come back then Barzal. I assume he had a concussion and just started skating on his own while Barzal has been at it a week longer then him. I’m also tempering my expectations with both of them with A. coming back and B. whether they’ll actually be in a decent game shape when they do. Believe me I’m not saying I don’t want them back I 100% do of course but Barzal has been out for some time and Romanov had a concussion. I don’t really expect them to be game breakers the first couple games back I expect at the very least their timing will be off for a bit. Sucks of course but that’s most likely reality. Again, hope I’m wrong about that.

It would be very hard to knock out a division winner without either one of them for the entire series. In Barzal’s case too, he has to get his legs back because he’s been out for 2 months. Such is the deceptive nature of the playoffs especially, we won’t know for sure until morning skate game one the earliest, 30min before the game latest.

Oh I agree these guys have to be ready to go. There’s no time to figure it out. Problem is reality may get in the way with that.

Tough call here. I actually think the opposite but definitely would say that could go either way. Romanov being on the ice means he's at least recovered enough that he can do things like cardio etc which is a good sign coming back from what maybe was a mild concussion (Grade 1). It was his first concussion, I think. By comparison, Pelech who likely suffered a moderate concussion (Grade 2 maybe a Major Grade 3) on Dec 6th began skating on Jan 12th and returned 11 days later. They took it very slow with Pelech but I think we could see Romanov much sooner.

Barzal is a big questionmark. My guess, to some degree of confidence at this stage, is that he suffered a grade three MCL tear. This is typically a two to four month recovery period. He went out Feb 18, so we're now at week seven about to hit eight. Naturally a significant tear like that causes a major increase in potential damage to other areas of the knee, calves or hips, so the rehab would be VERY slow. Just because he's skating doesn't necessarily mean he's been cleared 'without limitations'. So I guess we'll see. I was trying to think of a grade three case example but only Eric Staal's came to mind which happened while playing for Team Canada and went into the offseason. It took him 3 months.

We're 2-8 against you guys over the last 10 games. Brind'Amour seems to have the answer on how to beat us lately.
