We paid less than that, wouldn’t be a terrible result. Kinda seems like they plan to sign him based on the press release though. - neem55
Obviously Bear and his agent read the press release as well. |

4 Tanevs, 1 Hronek, and 1 Hughes? Sign me up. Would sure as poop would defend better - NewYorkNuck
I am starting to believe Canucks have a good shot at landing Gavrikov.
I give the new group credit for realizing the old faces really sucked. I hope it is not another year wasted. So far Hirose seem like the guy to make the team next year.

Gavrikov, Wolanin, and Hirose as the 7th dman.
Adios Bear, OEL and Myers.

Wolanin hasn’t done anything at the NHL level to make me think he is anything but a career AHL’er.
Edit: They should have traded Bear at the deadline |

The new group (as with Ruthy in the past) is good at realizing/trying to correct mistakes. Sometimes those mistakes are of their own making, but they at least are able to own up to it and move on.
I highly doubt OEL will get bought out, but that would go a long way to making the team better/competitive.
I hope those don't chase any names in FA. Gavrikov seems like the hot TDL commodity that will get a big contract in the summer then crash ala Myers. They're doing a good job getting younger/cheap guys into the lineup, keep it that way instead of buying in FA. |

As a 5/6 dman? I think he's shown he's much better than both Myers and OEL at gap control, speed, first pass out and offensive instincts. Also cost controlled. Not sure what you're hoping for in that price range. |

It’s not his price range. If they are going to improve the defence, he better be a spare part. |

In our cap situation, price and term is a pretty important detail. Of course there are better players, but there are bigger problems on defence at a much higher price. Not sure if an OEL buyout is a reality, but Myers has to go. I can't even watch him anymore. |

I give the group a thumbs up for trying new things. I am glad they got some NCAA signing but I am not a believer that these types of players will turn the club around.
They have signed or traded for a bunch of new players like Bloom Hirose and all so if one or two turn out that is a positive.
I think they are committed to making a splash next year after the Hronek trade of draft picks. I think they have to take a shot at making moves whether it is FA or trades. They need a 3C and another Dman of credibility.
My thoughts are the slow and steady build went out the window with the trade and bringing back OEL as the same player he was this year leaves a gaping big hole.
I do think they have a plan and until it unfolds we are all just guessing. I hate seeing comments like let's bring back Bear and even Briesbois whom I think earned a shot. I think those type of players give you a shot at the bubble and I want to be better than that. |

With OEL he sits when he cannot perform up to or near his contract. Send him a message. |

I was laughing because someone said last night Hirose was Tanev like. We are going to have a team full of CTs - VANTEL
 very good.
I probably would say Hirose doesn’t remind me of Tanev. More like Nate Schmidt type of defender. |

Like when Schmidt scored in his own net the other night to give the Flames the win.

What message? I think he knows he is getting old and slowing down.
He is either good enough to play at least at a five-million-dollar level or part ways. I don't think it is good for other players that are coming on the team to see guys like OEL and Myers making buckets of money and costing the team loss after loss.

Nate got a Schmidtty rap playing here. I think he is a decent Dman and if Hirose is like him then that is a win.

Exactly 👍🏻
Plus I don’t think the fans want to watch that kind of product anymore. The kids making entry level contracts will be given a lot more grace and still do a better job. |

I have probably watched 20 full games this year and 20 partial games. I never missed a game in 10 year prior. They can only keep sucking for so long.
