It's time Cpt. If Lou is honest with himself he would agree.

I promise not to talk to Ledecky. They need to do the right thing playoffs or not. Lou will be 81 in October. That is a factor right or wrong.

I have no idea whether his age is a factor. He seems pretty with it to me. Him being rigid to what the NHL has evolved into is his biggest fault imo not his age. I don’t dislike the guy he has done a ton for the organization obviously. I will say it’s doubtful he gets fired though. He’ll have the off-season at the very least and more then likely beyond. I just have no idea what he can accomplish with little draft capital or prospects or realistic tradeable assets.

Age can factor in Lou being so rigid. Would not even need to be a firing if his contract is up. The Islanders still need a lot of work and Lou has not exactly been an offseason warrior.

In fairness to Lou, there was a ton of pressure im sure to turn the ship around sooner rather than later. We all watched 12 years of a rebuild amount to nothing. I doubt the new ownership wanted a full rebuild with a new building on the horizon. Truth is, the isles needed another rebuild, and they just tried to patch the wounds with the likes of Parise, Palmieri, and a few others. Unfortunately Lou didnt inherit many assets in order to deal for picks. Its why I keep harping on the litany of top 5 picks that the isles drafted that arent in this organization or in the NHL. That's the root of the problem imo

Are we discounting the first round picks and assets he traded away?

Lambert was looking for a little Josh Bailey magic again last night.

Pure desperation at this point.
I'll hope for the best but I think we're toast at this point. Those games against CBJ and Buf were a must four points and they only came away with one. At that stage I figured we had done ourselves in. You just knew Tampa was going to start turning it on for the playoffs and Carolina just owns us.
Romanov has a few days to get back but he's most certainly concussed and won't be rushed back. Barzy is still at least 2-3 weeks away.
I'm betting we go 2-2 from here out and just miss.

Yeah maybe but the other teams mentioned also have to play well to gain on us. Purely looking at current trends I would agree with you. I have a hard time understanding how a team so desperate for points can play so uninspired the last couple of games.

I say that knowing they played a b2b and traveled. It doesn’t matter they were completely lifeless with zero effort with no emotion. You have said it before and I’ve echoed it as well that there doesn’t seem to be much fight in this team. They don’t stick up for each other nor support each other in game a lot of the time. We’ve witnessed it countless times this season and last. One of the many reasons I’ll never understand the reluctance to move on from this group and put more of an effort into personnel changes. It’s pretty obvious and you’d have to be completely obtuse not to see it.

The failure of not being able to sign a top UFA has not helped. A combo of a Hall of Fame GM and coach should have had more success with UFA's.

That is correct. Thanks to the 2 regulation losses this weekend, they no longer control their own destiny. They pretty much have to win their last 4 games and then hope that Florida or Pittsburgh sputters.

Yup! They are obviously factoring in losses by Pitt and/or Florida. And maybe they've assuming that Bailey will turn up the intensity?

Edit: I just looked at tomorrow's schedule. Buffalo vs. Florida. Pitt vs. the Devils. Both games that could go either way.

Should have tanked for Bedard, although if this team gets in to the P.O. they could be hard to play against.

The funny part is, when they were plummeting in the standings and entering the Bedard sweepstakes looked like a possibility, a lot of us said they'd probably catch fire and just barely miss the playoffs. Whelp......

The only reason they’d be a tough out is Sorokin. Goaltending is the only reason we’re not tanking for Bedard.

Yep. Sorokin’s agent is licking his chops right about now.

We're lucky that Sorokin has another season left on his contract after this one. He's making less money than Bailey whose contract expires at the same time.

Rod Brind’Amour after beating the Isles.

“We have a job to do. We want to finish as high as we can. But that team is playing for their lives. I thought we looked like the team that was maybe a little more desperate.”

Spot on bud.

It pails in comparison to Snow, and I'd also add that Snow had a COMPLETE rebuild, with over a decade of drafting, and couldnt sniff the cup. With less time, and a flawed roster handed to him, Lou had this team in the ECF twice. We haven't seen that in decades. I can't really chirp Lou, as on paper he's somewhat delivered.

He was absolutely right......the last two games lack the desperation. Not sure why.

In my humble opinion, i do not believe the draft lottery is a fair competition. I think someone from the league hand picks who wins that first overall based on revenue and the most need to fill seats. Obviously i have no proof, but seeing the Oilers win the draft years in a row, and the big market Rangers who desperately needed a "franchise player" jump from 11 to first is suspect to me. I dont recall another team since the lottery started jumping that far up. The math doesnt add up...
