Even with Barzal ,this team has major flaws with the lack of speed and talent. These things matter. - ses111
Talent's one thing. Lack of desperation is another. Would you say any Islander other than Pageau looked like he really put it all on the line tonight? They lost tons of one-on-one battles and committed way too many sloppy turnovers.
A 2-1 loss to a good Carolina team I can understand and accept if the Isles were really fighting like mad for every inch of ice and just came up short. I don't feel like that's the game I saw though. |

Could not watch the game. Islanders are an older team. Maybe they just do not have the energy to bring it each game? Maybe getting just Bo is not enough and they need a much bigger turnover? Teams like Tampa and the Canes are on another level than the Islanders and the Islanders just do not match up. |

I agree. I think Levy needs to go as well and the team has the revenue coming in with the new stadium that they need to spend like an elite club if they want to compete with or be one. - nyisles7
The only group I can see coming in with the kind of coin to buy the club are sheiks or something of that ilk, and, I don’t care. They’ll want to win first and foremost at least. The manager never gets fully backed because profits > winning. |

How good was the Horvat chance on the PP? I was listening on the radio. This guy is making too much money to not be producing.
We’re a streaky team. Plain and simple. And, we can’t score all of a sudden. The Pageau-Parise-Engvall line was the only line that looked on it tonight. |

Bo is overpaid like most players. Even Lou was not happy with the deal. Bo is missing Barzal big time like Barzal was missing someone that could finish his plays before Bo.

Agreed. In fact, I could almost tolerate his lack of scoring if he made up for it with solid defensive play. But he has the worst +/- on the team. After a quick start with the Isles, this guy's game has fallen off a cliff. He just hasn't been consistently good at anything other than face-offs.

He had a nice look. If you ask him he would say he needs to tie it there. He’s getting the chances but he’s not scoring. It’s IODS and he’s got it. In Vancouver it goes in.
Beavillier has 8 goals 18 points in 23 GP.

Beyond faceoffs, hes been a disaster. A lot of folks are going to reasonably cut him slack because of trade cost and contract term. We can't afford to have that trade be a failure. Next year he'll get a full season to prove his worth, but that trade has NOT helped them thus far. |

This team is out of gas - PeteM
The Isles lean on their defense corps a lot. When they lose a guy like Pelech or Romanov, it shows.
They miss Barzy so damn much, but even he may not be enough.

Lou finally felt pressure to do something. Still way too early to judge the trade. Hopefully it all works out. This Islander team is still very flawed. I hope Ledecky and Malkin have not made a decision yet to bring back Lou. |

Meh, never agreed with the trade from the get go. I judged it when it happened. We may still squeak into the playoffs but trading a first in a strong draft and Raty when this team obviously needs to get younger didn't make any sense to me. Someone could make the argument we got a decent player in Horvat signed to a long term deal but a trade like this should’ve been made 2-3 years ago not when this group is obviously toast. Have to be able to see the writing on the wall. When you can’t as a GM that’s when you’re no longer doing a good job. |

I would not have made this trade. Lou is two years too late in making moves. The timing of this trade is what really shocked many Islander fans. The talent was obviously lacking for a few years. I guess the internet GMs did know something. Ledecky and Malkin obviously do not want to miss the playoffs again. Did they stress this to Lou after last season? It made no sense how Lou approached this past offseason. Even the hockey writers were confused with the lack of moves. |

Maybe he can find a way to get back into the first round? Maybe he can make some trades and FA signings in the offseason that make this team competitive? Pageau is rumored all over the place to be trade bait since we traded for Horvat. Not really sure how that would work out since Horvat seems to be borderline useless without Barzal which subtracts from our center depth. We have zero assets to make any substantial trades along with an aging roster that will more then likely be worse next season.
This isn’t some opinion that materialized due to Horvat not scoring or dropping the last couple of games. It was reality before the Horvat trade and still is today. |

This was a very risky trade and it's still risky even with the signed Horvat. He does not seem to be a great skater and his overall game does not seem strong. Lou thought this roster was good enough based on the playoff runs and it's clearly not good enough. Lou is an all-time great, but it's time for a new direction.

It's time Cpt. If Lou is honest with himself he would agree.
