100%. If Torts in the press box isn’t an indication to some that he’s at the helm I don’t know what to say to convince them otherwise?

Maybe he really likes the popcorn up there

Torts and Briere will turn this train wreck around! I have a sneaky feeling that Briere isn't the type to be brainwashed, so all the turds that he was surrounded by didn't poison him. I can see Briere and Torts being on the same page which is a good thing.

There is a trade market for Hayes, especially if the Flyers cover about $2.5M per, but I agree, Provey and Hayes will most likely be the players subtracted from this team, along with JVR of course.
- jd250

I hope you (and several others) are right and that we can unload Hayes. I keep thinking who wants an aging player that has a history of being inconsistent plus had a few injuries in recent years? Hopefully we get a good return for Provy and of course, he will flourish on a good team. I'll miss him but it's definitely the right time to part ways.

I’m hopeful and hope we are both right.

We both might be wrong and spend a week wiping egg off our faces.

What I refuse to do is write them off yet.

You need some new material. We know ND is a neanderthal, Torts is archaic, etc., thanks to your daily reminders. Yes, I am a fool and embarrassing myself so I'll save you the response. I don't like the ND contract but have no problem with a vet like him getting limited minutes and adding toughness to the team. The Bunnaman's and Twarynski's of the world don't add much so might as well have a vet in that 4th line spot.

You also want to do right by the player and give him a chance to win assuming he wants it.

Really depends on who ends up sticking and if that’s a role needed to be filled. I don’t have an answer but torts already saying there will be no captain is interesting

- black_francis

Yes, you absolutely should do right by the player. Torts definitely makes things interesting with his methods. I don't follow other teams much anymore, but have been watching hockey for a long time and don't recall a team without a captain for such an extended period of time.

I’m just a fan. I’m not in the organization. I’m not on the team. When we’re losing and the playoffs are out of reach, I still want to be entertained. Nick Deslauriers very much entertained me this evening.

That was a good game to watch! It’s a shame that Sandstrom’s mistake in OT but he played a great game! It’s obvious the Flyers can’t keep up with talent but the effort was there all game.
It was worth watching them for a change.
York, Frost and Tippet seem to turning into keepers. It seems like Torts is definitely coaching up the young players and they are responding positively. Frost definitely played one of the best games on BOTH sides of the puck tonight!!

When Cam got hurt and went to Ohio to be taken care of I asked questions. I stated here what I heard - it’s so bad that some players don’t even want to be in the same building as the med staff. That seemed like an exaggeration until Torts’ recent comments on that department.

It’s the same thing when I mentioned “cliques” in the locker room from what I heard before even G got traded. Certain folks dismissed it. Then you have Torts describing a splintered locker room when he arrived. I know these speculative, anecdotal stories can’t be put on a spreadsheet but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist and are apart of the going-ons. Sports is drama after all and it’s all apart of it.

Torts is the only guy who seems to give a poop and I don’t see what’s wrong with that considering the stagnant status quote we’ve all endured for the better part of a decade.

No sleep lost for a loss this season and while I’d like to lose in regulation I’ll take the silver lining that it was Sandstrom with the mistake and not Hart

It amazes me that there were some folks on here that didn't like this game tonight. The Flyers were overmatched against a team that was playing for their playoff lives on home ice. The teams from the past few years would have laid down and died. If it wasn't for Torts this team would be lost in space, but Giroux and Jakey would still be putting up their pretty numbers.

And whether they liked this game…or any game this year… it’s a show me try out year.

Not “what can you do in the perfect circumstance” not “what can you do with the right line mates, matchups and ice time” it’s “what can you do with what is in front of us”

We should be done coddling guys

Hayes is still a good middle six forward and at $4-$4.5M per season for 3 years, that is a bargain, especially with the cap going up. Provey I am mixed about. I think he is a solid player but given where the Flyers are at, they have too much money tied up in their defenseman, so something has to give. Moving Provey this off season and DeAngelo next trade deadline should fix this problem and give the Flyers the flexibility they need as their younger players continue to develop. Still, there is no stud defenseman in the Flyers system, nor is their a top-end center. Until they get these two players, I can't see how the Flyers legitimately compete for a cup.

The Flyers played the game hard but this game was really about how inept the Ottawa Senators are. They had a 4-1 lead with 10 minutes to go at home and only gave up 6 shots on goal, and still almost lost the game in OT by a matter of inches. Putrid!

If the archaic coach would actually give some players like Twarynski some ice time, he might be be able to add something. Players like ND are no longer needed in the league. Roster spots for a team in the Flyers position on lower lines such as the 4th line should be used to develop players. Not for ineffective veteran players like ND. I'm glad you finally realized that about yourself. It's a step in the right direction.

The Flyers didn't play hard. They were pathetic for most of the game. They had what, 5 shots on net through two periods!

Ottawa is not a good defensive team but the Flyers are worse.
