Jack Eichel is 6-0 in 3v3 situations. Wanna give him the Selke?

Bergeron is 2-1, Matthews is 4-4, McDavid is 3-2, Stone is 1-1, Lindholm and Barkov are both 0-2.

Maybe 3v3 isn't an indicator of defense.

maybe it is. I doubt Holl has given up many OT loses

One of these things is not like the other… maybe that was the problem?

Certainly Rielly shouldn't be starting. When I was younger I was taught to play the loss of the faceoff. They probably taught me that because I suck at hockey - and truthfully I did usually take up a defensive and contributing posture (played LW) because a lot of other kids were bigger and had better shots, but the point of that is that if you assume that 50% of the time you're starting without the puck, you need people on the ice who will position themselves accordingly and make it harder for the opposition to get the puck through.

Rielly is not that guy. Marner at 3v3 seems to get too wide-eyed at times, seeing too much open ice and makes reckless moves or passes.

Starting Matthews, as you said, is fine - but I think you want him in an offensive position, so getting the puck and bringing on your best offensive weapons when you have the puck is a solid idea.

It should be noted that JT shouldn't see the ice in 3v3, captain or not. He's just plain terrible. He has been on the ice for no goals for and has 4 goals against. In fact he's been so bad that he actually has an assist but the team had to wait for him to get off the ice before they could score! Ok. That might be hyperbolic, but he literally has been on for 13 minutes of 3v3 and has 2 shots for and 12 against. It's not really a surprise we lost last night with him on the ice.

I don't recall seeing him on the ice for any OT that I can recall

Hey you're partially right. Holl has been on for 46 seconds of 3v3 and he did allow a goal in that shift.

I, for the record, am not one of the people who hates Holl. I think he's just fine in the role he's asked to play. He struggles when he's asked to do more than he should be doing. It's like asking Kampf to centre line 1 and then getting mad when he doesn't score 30.

I really don't care about results anymore, bring on the playoffs this is getting boring.

Thankfully the Jays start.

I spent this past season (the entire franking season) trying to hammer this home through the skulls of my players, and 3 wingers simply couldn't remember to go straight out to cover the points.

Every

Franking

Single

Time.

Back at the bench, "What's your one and only job on faceoffs in our end?"

"Skate to the points."

"And what did you do on that last faceoff?"

I've said it before on here, and it was confirmed last night for me during the game, Tavares is a give away machine.

I haven't seen the stats but man does he seem to cough the puck up a lot, and at the worst times too.

So when you asked us to beat Tampa, we did.

But when we ask you to beat Florida, this is what we get?

Not cool guys. Not cool.

Not sure if this was posted or not but I kinda' hope this is because Schenn is planning on staying with the Leafs next year. Too bad Canuck fans he's not going back out west!

My favourite line from the article:

"Schenn's new house also means that he might be considering a long term career with the Leafs. This is purely speculative, but it is always a good sign for long term commitment when a player buys a new house in the city they currently play for."

Ummmm, he's 33 years old, and currently 7th or worse on our depth chart.

Long term commitment?

lol

Lots of comments on the farcebook post that I got the link from - many Vancouver fans convinced this means nothing because it was reported Schenn said (so no direct quote I could find) he wanted to retire in Vancouver and apparently he wanted to have his baby there too.

Yet here he is, raving about how happy he is to be back in Toronto and buying (not renting) a house. It's almost like players say the least controversial thing and can change their minds! Crazy !!!!!!

Maybe they mean long term as in play another year or 2, then transition into a role with the organization a la Spezza or some type of a coaching gig?

Sports fans (and this statement includes Toronto fans) are the dumbest humans on earth.

Nobody ever says anything bad about the town they are playing in. With the exception of that Columbus Blue Jacket a few years ago, every single guy in every single sport says that they can't imagine ever playing in any place other than [insert name of current city they are playing for].

It means nothing. Quit trying to predict where a guy will sign his next contract, based upon cliches he spits out in front of a microphone.

I am sure Vancouver is great and I am sure he would love to retire there.

But when your hometown team trades for you that goes out the window, you ditch the girl and get the girl you really wanted but never knew wanted you

Rental costs making buying a house when you have the cash to do so a no brainer.

Anyone who believes there’s more to it is doing nothing more than fantasizing.

Don't you poop on my parade Dozzer!

And just to be argumentative a pro hockey player doesn't GAS about rental prices, the pain in the ass combined with "capital gains" costs they would pay to buy a home and then sell it a year later makes me believe he bought to stay.

Hell when JVR was a Leaf for some time (dunno' maybe the whole time?) he lived at the Royal York hotel in one of the long term suites they have. I only know this because I ran into him in the lobby when I was waiting for a meeting and asked someone I knew who worked at the hotel why the hell JVR was there at 2pm on a weekday. I actually insinuated it was a booty call but was corrected. lol
